I've done the Disneyworld FL multiple times, but never Disneyland. What's the best way to do it? Just stay in a local hotel and shuttle? Do you need to rent a car or not?

Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park is the best place to stay in my opinion, not the cheapest. Within easy walking distance of the park. Plus it has the best hotel waterpark in the area not including great wolf. We were there last year in May and will be back this May. The weather is infinitely better than Orlando but has only 2 parks.

We went to Legoland last and realized it's only for kids 10 or younger. Will be going to Knott's berry farm on a day trip this time around.

FYI, if you can, fly into SNA, so much smaller, easier, and closer to Disney than LAX. Legit, we are at baggage claim within 5 minutes of debarking.

Compared to Disney World it's very compact. It's in the middle of a neighborhood. You can stay at a bunch of different hotels that are a 15 minute walk from the park.

Nearby hotel and walk to/from. I rented a car from LAX and just dropped it off at the nearby rental can station and Ubered back to LAX. That way we had a car to stop and make a grocery stop and it wasn't much more than an Uber would be.

We went last year and stayed at the Indigo, it worked out well. About a 10 minute walk to the parks so we didn't need a rental car or never used a shuttle. They have a ton of hotels in the area, so you can stay even closer than we did. We flew into Long Beach which was nice, about 25 minutes from Disneyland, easy Lyft ride.

Being familiar with the FL location, you may find the urban sprawl around the Anaheim park to be unsettling. Once you are inside, it's a nice experience. The story is that Disney had not anticipated how extensive the surrounding development would be. When the location for the second park was was selected Disney owned/controlled surrounding land for miles. That way Disney Inc made money on all development.

While in SoCal try out Disney's predecessor, Knox Berry Farm which started as a fruit stand...www.knotts.com

Been to Disneyland several times when I was stationed at Edwards AFB. I know this goes without saying since Disney World is so spread out but, be prepared for a smaller, more compact park. If all you are going to do is visit Disneyland and no where else in So Cal, I would stay at a hotel within walking distance and walk to the park. You will need a rental if there are any other places you want to visit outside of the Disney footprint. Take some time to visit California Adventure as it's worth it.

Been a bunch of times there and honestly I find I like it better. It's much more relaxing and less stressful than FL and I find the rides in CA are usually better than the FL counterparts.

There are plenty of decent hotels within 10 minute walking distance that are cheaper than the on-site ones.
