Applied for my first passport on 2/8, paid for every expediting option possible even though the USPS guaranteed me I did not need to for a departure date of 4/15.

My application went into in process on 3/5 and after some research I see it's at the Charleston, SC office which seems to be the worst in the country.

Is there anyway to pay the $750-$1300 for the guaranteed rush delivery services out there? Since they have my original birth certificate as my supporting documentation not sure how this would work or if it even would.

Anyone have experience with this?

If it is now in process, I think you will get it in time.

To answer your question, the only other way to expedite at this point is call your congressman's office. Explain the situation and they will usually intervene and shorten the delay.

Since you already started the process, *and* that you sent apparently the only legit birth certificate you have, you are screwed. However, you should probably get it back in time. Kids under a certain age have to apply for a new passport "fresh" even if they've had one before, and my daughter's came back in about three weeks.

Submit a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) of your original evidence of U.S. citizenship.

Go ahead and apply for a new birth certificate from the authority in your area. I've never gotten anything but the passport back.

You'll have it within two weeks after it starts processing.
Especially if you expedited. I went through this in October and was sweating bullets as my date approached.

Also once your within a week of your travel date and no passport you can go to a center and get one same day.

Mine came in 10 days before my trip and I applied 5 weeks before trip. (Last minute trip with my mom to Spain)

shite at that rate it would be cheaper to fly out there and get it yourself.

I renewed my passport and expedited and even when it began processing it still took five weeks. I think two weeks is wishful thinking.

The clock doesn't start until you reach in process. You'll be lucky to get it by your departure date.

I need to get a passport. My passport expired in 2008. What’s the best process to get one ? I don’t need one until next summer.

For reference OP, Wife's expiring passport accepted 12/29/22. Didn't show as processing until about two weeks ago, received yesterday. So 12/29/22 to 3/20/22, came from Tucson (we live in the boot), not expedited.

I tried to get her to expedite just to take any question out of the equation, but she's too frugal. Each time I've renewed, I've expedited and it always came back super quickly.

edited to correct typo

Just start the regular process now. It's good for 10 years, why make it an issue?

Don't let them expire is also a good thing to do. It's a cheap deal, and renewing is relatively painless.

I'm of the mind one should always maintain a valid passport.

I applied for a passport yesterday. Also sent birth certificate because they told me they would mail it back with passport. I need one for September. I hope I’m not screwed.

Figured this was as good of place as any for update. Receiving my renewed passport today, regular processing. Just short of 8 weeks.

I am traveling to Banff in 6 days. I applied in June 1st and it has been processing since the 5th of June. I started getting nervous last week and I called my congressman and requested they assist. It will be here tomorrow. Calling your local official is the best way to get your passport on time
