I just got back from European cruise and flew United airlines. Will say with our experience, will never fly United again if I can help it.

What is international airline of your choice?

Eta.... screw o'haire airport in Chicago. First time flying there. Horrible

I’m loyal to delta which is why their new changes in their status program are a bummer.

Well this was a viking cruise and they are contracted or whatever to United. Numerous people had issues getting there. At least 12 people missed first day of cruise due to United plane issues

Turkish or Lufthansa. Lufthansa +2 if I have a gay flight attendant, but the food on Turkish is better by far.

ANA is also excellent, they clean the lavs in between every passenger in Biz, but I spend more time in Europe.

Well, no shite. Fly to IAH (assuming you're in MS/LA) and take a direct flight from IAH to Europe. I am not going to save $100 on a $1400 ticket to get routed through a Northern airport, even if it's not winter. ATL has similar problems during the summer when the thunderstorms roll through during the day. Nope.

I was hardcore Delta for many, many years and kept Platinum status year over year over year. Then I stopped travelling for work as much and fell out of qualification and used my banked miles.

Now, I'm not particular to any carrier domstically but usually wind up on SW.

For International flights, I make a rule to always book non-US carriers and I've had good experiences on all the ones I've used.

That was one of issues. We were flying from New Orleans to Houston. Then to Amsterdam.

Got on tar Mac and pulling out but plane had mechanical issues at 10 in the morning. United would not cancel flight, showed it just delayed. Delayed to 8 that night. My flight to Amsterdam left Houston at 5

Wasn't trying to nickel and dime them to save money. Just wanted a flight out

Lufthansa was good. Flew I to Frankfurt on that.

Not a fan of that airport either. I'm kind of hard of hearing and didn't understand what they were asking me. I wound up in the side room being frisked by the polizia. Was quite the trip

You have to be aware of who runs the airport you're flying into. You flew into AMS, which is a SkyTeam hub. Any United/Lufthansa aircraft is going to be deprioritized for anything (boarding, baggage, your gates are in the middle of nowhere compared to Delta/KLM/AF assignments.)

Fly into IAH to FRA or MUC, and take the train nearly anywhere you need to go in Europe. 90 minutes to get to a major Northern Euro city is infinitely preferable. I would advise you not fly through London (AA/BA) unless you can't help it. My last time there, there wasn't a functioning bathroom in terminal 5 (all international flights) and there were thousands of people trying to get through immigration. Who does that? Oh, Heathrow does.

This was a package type deal. Shouldn't say deal because was not cheap.

United sucked all the way around. I will say though, viking cruise lines hooked us up after our ordeal.

I am going on Viking later this year. What does "Viking hooked us up" mean so I can know what to expect if this happens to us.

I’ve rarely had problems with United. We fly out of IAH several times a month and most all flights are direct.

Re domestic, I have an unpopular choice for preferred airlines....Spirit lol. I fly Spirit probably 4x a month. If you travel light and dont mind mid-air women fistfights, it is hands down the most reliable for me. Almost always on time. Its also the cheapest airline, and i LOVE that people cant recline their seat back on me (which absolutely p*sses me off). Plus their planes are all new.

Their customer service absolutely sucks *ss though.

I like delta the most . United and American I’ve never really had problems with though . I avoid spirit and southwest unless it’s a direct flight

I’m based in Amsterdam, so KLM and ergo to an extent Delta when I fly back to the US since they tend to operate KLM bookings to and from the US.

In the past I also had good experiences with Luthansa, had the luxury of flying their first class (not business) many moons ago as an unaccompanied minor, and that was a flying experience I’ll never forget.

I digress, back on the topic of Schiphol, Jetblue has fought their way into getting steady routes there served via BOS and JFK and I have to say their transatlantic service blows the dick off of Delta’s IMHO.

Free wifi that works well, better food, my flight over to BOS I had the gay FA experience which I suspect Lemmy alluded to, homeboy had a fresh bloody mary in my hand every time I blinked.

Fares are also very competitive however due to airport taxing/fees structures if you’re flying round trip with Europe as your return point fares will generally be half of what they are the other way around regardless of carrier, a nice perk for living on this side of the pond (I paid €400 round trip Amsterdam to Richmond, VA with Jetblue booked a few weeks in advance) and with Delta/KLM I’ve never paid more than ~ €850 round trip to the US from AMS whether going to Denver (my parents) or Orlando/Tampa (inlaws).

In spite of that I still stick to KLM because most of my air travel in intra-EU and I’m on track to get their gold status this year and my partner already has it so when we travel together she can always bring me into the lounge at whatever airport.

TL;DR - fly to Schiphol with Delta/KLM or otherwise Jetblue (if we’re talking about flying to Europe*).

I tend to have the best luck with delta and United. I’m usually just looking for a good price with times that work though. Not loyal to any of them.

A note on this: We've done 7 Viking Cruises now. We used to book air through Viking, but inevitably, they'd change the flight schedules. Issue is they reserve, but not BOOK, until 60 days prior. We just book direct on our own now or use our travel agent to the destinations. You still get the "Viking Greeting" at the airport, bus transfers etc. But at least you know your airline, seat assignments etc.

Zero airline loyalty

I rotate through different credit cards playing the points game so I am loyal to who offers the best product, price and schedule for that trip at that time
