Former Troy quarterback Matthew Caldwell has committed to Texas out of the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

Caldwell, a 6-foot-4, 212-pound senior from Auburn, Alabama, started the final five games at Troy last season, completing 141 of 223 passes for 1,608 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 235.6 passing yards per game over that span.

Caldwell's journey to Texas includes previous stints at Gardner-Webb and Jacksonville State. His addition gives the Longhorns an experienced passer in the QB room.

The fact that Texas entertained this only leaves us to believe Arch is good but not great. It’s obvious Ewers was better and they either need to push Arch to be better or this kid is a just in case backup

umm not necessarily. With the injuries we had last year Sark probably wants another backup. when considering how long the seasons are and how physical the SEC is.
Reports from camp are that both arch and trey are doing very well.
Then again, until we go to Ohio State in game 1 we really won't know what we have. I've learned to completely ignore camp chatter because it, quite often, is bullshite.
The media obsession with arch is going to be annoying. It comes with the territory. With that last name it was bound to happen.
God help us if one of Tom Brady's boys is good enough for D1 football.

That’s horse shite. Dude is a senior and a good QB with experience. They had one of two conversations with him. Either A. We have our QB and you’re a senior so we recommend you find another place to go play and good luck. Or B. Arch is good, but we think you have a shot at being the starter.

None of those conversations were : We have Arch and he’s our guy so you can come and be a backup your last year ever to play football and there’s a 99% chance you’ll never play outside of practice. So we won’t even give you a helmet. Just stand there hold a card and take a couple of classes towards your masters degree
