Every year it seems like I lose a gardenia. Why are they such bitch arse shrubs?

I lost a big one last year. We've got probably 20 on our property and have no clue why this one decided to croak.

A month or 2 ago they all got some yellow leaves, so I gave them a dose of iron and some osmocote and they all look great now.

Same. Mine came with the house and get full sun in the afternoons. Not sure why the previous owner decided on these for that location. Really want to dig them up and replace but not sure what’s a good replacement for a west facing backyard.

Planted 3 last fall in albeit shitty new development soil. They were all looking pretty bad, and after giving them some ironite, 2 of them came back and are flowering now. The middle one was a lost cause, and I just dug it up last week and put a rose bush in its place.

I had miniature gardenias and they required a lot of care to keep healthy. I was always having to give them iron, try to acidify the soil, special fertilizers and still would lose 1 every now and then. The finally gave up on them.

Glad I’m not alone. If this one doesn’t make it I’m pulling them all and going with something else in that location.
