What “off the norm” trade would you like to do as a hobby?

There’s been similar threads like this before, and I don’t remember what I said.

I think being a cobbler would be cool as shite. Not just re-soling shoes like this video, but making leather shoes from start to finish

I've actually been looking into becoming a commercial diver. If things work like I want it and I can get my business to pretty much run on auto pilot, I'll have some time on my hands. Not that I would anticipate working in the field but it would be something to do with my time that would be a physical and mental challenge. Plus I'd probably get some cool t shirts out of it and I'd have an excuse for buying an expensive dive watch.

Gunsmithing, although I'm sure there is more to it than I think

I think doing leather work would be cool. Belts, wallets, relacing baseball gloves and what not would be cool.

Delivery driver. If I didn’t have a family I’d try over the road trucking

I’d love to do what the American Pickers guys do. Drive the backroads in search of collectibles. Seems therapeutic.

The three things that always come to mind with this type of question are:

1. dive trip guide (NOT AN INSTRUCTOR)

2. sea kayaking guide

3. high altitude climbing guide This is by far the most intriguing to me but while I could still make the climbs I don't have the extra juice in the tank to deal with emergencies and on 8000 meter peaks emergencies are not at all rare. For most people that summit an 8000 meter peak it is a waypoint in their life and being a part of that for lots of people would be really cool. Climbers from noobs to professionals are also one of the most interesting groups you will meet. They almost all have a storied life before they ever put foot on a high mountain and you get lots of time to learn their stories.

Luthier

Sort of a semi hobby a few years ago, just never took time to get the proper training.
