LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell declared for the NFL Draft last week and revealed Wednesday that he will not play in the Texas Bowl vs. Baylor.

Campbell, who is expected to be a first-round draft pick, said he will travel with the team to Houston for the bowl game and coach his teammates up from the sideline.

The Texas Bowl on Tuesday, December 31, at NRG Stadium in Houston will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Why risk injury for a meaningless (& objectively shitty) bowl game?

Because the Fighting Tigers are playing in it

He's gonna support them from the sideline while they helped him become a first round pick. Such an awesome teammate. I love when guys think they are more important than the team who helped them get where they are.

Whos reps are more important to the FUTURE of LSU, a guy who's gone after bowl game or a guy who might be starting next year. He's helping us believe it or not. And his replacement can learn/gain alot more with Will guiding him each step of the way. It's a damn texas bowl for Pete's sake. Thanks for your service Will.

You will never see another projected first-round player play in a non-playoff bowl game again. Eventually playoff games too. That'll be really fun, won't it?

Call me shocked. He probably needs more time to work on false starts

Not very Number 7-like. I like him, but this decision is disappointing.

LOL guy is about to be top 15 pick, maybe even top 10. Him playing in that bowl game doesn't benefit him any...

Hoping this is just a good troll. Young man is just months away from achieving his dream of playing in the nfl, much less as a well-compensated first-round pick. It would be awesome if he played, and I have no doubt he would if we were in the cfp. But he has done his work and has nothing else to prove, and owes nothing else to LSU or its fans. He has been a starter since day one as a freshman, which means he has been exposed to way more snaps than the average guy who comes through here. Every one was a risk to his career if it had gone wrong. there's no need for him to grind it out for one more game, risk that for one more game, just so you will feel better about the Texas Bowl. Nothing but respect if he had chosen to play, but no disrespect if he doesn't. He has paid his dues. Good luck young man.

The only loser here is you. This bowl game's only purposes are practice reps and evaluation. Why would you need to give a guy who is leaving reps over someone who will be part of your team next year? Why would a guy who is going to be a first round pick and set himself up financially for life take a chance on a serious injury in a meaningless game. It benefits LSU overall that he is not playing. I think its great he's going to be around to help and coach up the younger guys.
