This is true. You’re supposed to pour it vigorously into a glass to release the CO2 so that it doesn’t get released after you swallow it. Here’s a beer expert that explains it.

But, the foam taste lousy for the most part. I don't think I've ever, or rarely ever, had a beer with a shitload of foam in it...but wouldn't the beer taste flatter doing it like the experts' say to do it?

That beer you opened and then stuck it back in the fridge last night...ain't gonna be that great today without the CO2.

I’ve been to a Czech restaurant where they served a flight of Pilsner Urquell and it varied from all foam, 2/3rds foam, around an inch of foam and then no foam. While each tasted like beer, they had very different flavor profiles. Was interesting to try and not sure I would ever want one with as much foam as the first two options but it’s a thing in their beer culture.
