Other post-apocalyptic books like The Road by Cormac McCarthy?

I guess I'm looking for tragedy, not necessarily science fiction.
I've read part of Alas, Babylon but couldn't necessarily get in the groove with it. It didn't really grab me like The Road.

Good one, I need to go back and try that one out again. I do like King, for the most part.

I liked all of the following, which give some variety to the genre:
Station 11 (Traveling troup of playmakers/circus type thing after apocalypse)-HBO is about to release a series based on this one.
Dog Stars (Dude in the mountains with his dog. Saw someone call it "a river runs through it meets the road" and that is an apt description.
Both are flu based apocalypse, so good quarantine reads.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It was written - and takes place - in the 80s. So some of the book may seem dated. Still a great story though. Nuclear holocaust between the USA and Russia. The story follows the survivors, especially a special girl named Swan.

I just came to say The Dog Stars. Maybe. But man is there anything like McCarthy? I'm still looking for a book like No Country. And The road too now that I think about it.

That’s what I came here to recommend. I’ll have to check out Dog Stars.

Not all up to par with The Road but I enjoyed:
In the Country of Last Things
The Postman
The Day of the Triffids - Sci-fi but good
World War Z - better than the film
The Zombie Survival guide - humor from the same author as WWZ
The Walking Dead graphic novels
Cell - Stephen King
A Canticle for Leibowitz
Robopocalypse
The Andromeda Strain
The World Without Us - great non-fiction
High-Rise - J. G. Ballard
Alas, Babylon - I loved it
On the Beach
The Road - right up there as best
The Stand - of course a classic

Warhammer. Don't remember the author. Comet impacts the earth. The comet itself isn't that bad but the social upheaval tears society apart.
Also Warday by Whitley Strieber. Published in the eighties so a little bit dated. Journalist travels America in the aftermath of a US-Soviet nuclear exchange.

This one is not necessarily a post-apocalyptic novel, but The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick (written in the 1960s, I think) is an alternate history where the Axis won the Second World War. I thought it would be worth mentioning here.
ETA: Describes life in America after an Axis victory

Mark Lawrence's Broken Empire Trilogy is a grimdark fantasy series that takes place on a post apocalyptic earth.
