I am looking for something relatively modern that highlights our reliance on technology and geopolitics. Preferably, nothing supernatural. Thanks for your suggestions.

Franklin Horton has a few series that are great
Borrowed World starts out with an attack on the Baton Rouge Exxon refinery
Way of Dan is about the grid going down from solar storm
There’s also Tomorrow War which gets into abusive domestic police
Can’t go wrong with any of them

Thanks, I’m starting Borrowed World now. I came to the book board specifically to ask for societal collapse books. There’s an awful lot of poorly written crap out there.

Outland by Dennis E. Taylor
Science Fictiony, college students find a way to wormhole to Alternate Earths right as Yellowstone lets loose. Have to find a way to rebuild on a different non human populated version of Earth and explore more other Earths, save the others still alive on original earth and deal with the politics of groups coming together from religious right and liberal college kids.
He wrote the Bobiverse books. It gets kinda cringey at some points, but overall interesting. Bobiverse books are better I think, may be up your alley since it gets pretty political, but it is mostly about a modern day human being frozen after he dies and then turned into a quasi AI self replicating space probe several centuries into the future. Has to rescue humans on a planet they destroyed and explore space/fight other probes.

FYI, the One Second After series had a fourth book that came out on August 22 called Five Years Age. Personally, I would love to see a movie series made of the novels.
Synopsis:
From William R. Forstchen, the New York Times bestselling author of the One Second After series, comes Five Years After, a near-future thriller where John Matherson must contend with new threats to the fragile civilization that he helped rebuild.
Five years after The Final Day, the Republic of New America has all but collapsed into regional powers and the world at large is struggling to remain stable as regional conflicts ravage the post EMP landscape. After several years attempting to lead a quiet life, John Matherson receives the news that the President is dying from a possible assassination attempt, and is asked to step in to negotiate with what appears to be a new military power hidden in the wreckage of the world.
Pulled back into the fray, John struggles to hold the tottering Republic together. Facing threats on multiple fronts, he races against time to stop another EMP attack on the former United States and China, putting years of progress at risk. With so much of his work under threat, John must find the strength within to start over, so that he can save the country and the people that he holds dear from even greater calamity.
