This is a novella on which the excellent Donald Sutherland movie was based. The novella is superb and is just endlessly interesting and captivating on every page. I was feeling nervous and mystified in every scene, and I didn't want it to end.

She's a pretty incredible writer. Have you read Rebecca? Most consider it to be her best novel? If Hitchcock makes 3 of your books into a movie, you know you're one of the best mystery writers ever.
Not necessarily the same genre but I would recommend some other classics like Wuthering Heights (quite a bit longer than a novella) and Jane Eyre by Emily Bronte. Both great books and the two authors writing style aren't that different.
