This was a picture of those selected for the 1905 NIL deals.

Can anyone figure out where they are sitting?

Old State Capitol doesn’t have steps like that, does it?

Looks like the LSU Law School building entrance.

There are only 16 guys in that photo. I guess they had to play both sides of the ball and had a few replacements. Those were REAL football players.

Looks like they are on the steps of the original Hill Memorial Library.

Hill Memorial Library was completed in 1903 and located downtown with the old LSU campus. When the University's campus moved to where it stands today, the original Hill Memorial Library building stayed, but was torn down in the mid-1950s.

A new Hill Memorial Library was built on the current campus and was dedicated in 1926.

Yeah the old campus was located roughly in the green space between the new state capital and the rest of downtown. The pictures I've seen show some neat buildings. I wish they hadn't been torn down. I guess the Pentagon Barracks are all that's left.

I don’t believe the Pentagon Barracks were part of LSU.

As a kid I remember seeing some of the old buildings on southwest corner of fifth street and Spanish Town Road. It was a long two story building with a long balcony if memory serves.

Auburn would hang a championship banner for that year if they found something like this. Cool.

That’s outstanding.

Thanks for posting it.

I suppose a few years early to include the legendary Doc Fenton.

Interesting history, and thx for sharing. I did some further research since "McNaspy" caught my attention. Clement J. McNaspy - wiki was born in 1882, grew up in Kansas, and somehow ended up at LSU to further his education and play football. McNaspy moved to Lafayette where he was a Physics & Chemistry Professor, and coached the basketball, baseball, and football teams. He was SLI's first Ath Director. Was 51 yrs old when he suddenly died of a heart attack. SLI built McNaspy Stadium (seat cap 4,500) in his honor.

Looks like the F. M. Edwards listed at the bottom of the page is the grandfather of Governor John Bel Edwards and current Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards.

At the Ivys, probably relatively larger than it is today. See "tramp athletes."
