When Crimea starts getting threatened significantly (Ukrainians are on a roll and pushing hard), that’s when Putin will most dangerous IMO. I think he will go to the max to prevent Crimea from falling. Where his max is, we don’t know yet. Unless he gets removed first.

@nexta_tv Per Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, Iran does not recognized the so-called "referendums" organized by Russia in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

There's 10 million Kurds in a country of 90 million people all clustered in Northwest Iran. The last thing they want to do is set a precedent for a referendum being "ok", much less a sham one.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about that happening.

Ukraine claims Russia lost 44 tanks 27 APCs yesterday

Supposedly, 30 of those were on two pontoon ferries crossing the Dnipro that Ukraine claims to have sunk. That's why yesterday's claimed total was so much higher than normal.

But, there's been no video released, so they won't be added to Oryx's list.

As the sun sets tonight I know many of you are thinking of your Jewish friends and family as they celebrate Yom Kippur.

In the spirit of this thread and the high holiday, I am reminded of the Yom Kippur War in 1973 when a coalition of Arab nations launched a surprise attack against Israel. The attack was launched on multiple fronts and from multiple international boundaries. The attacking forces came primarily from Egypt, Syria and Saudi Arabia. The population of the attacking countries (~roughly 60,000,000) dwarfed that of Israel (~3,000,000). The attackers, equipped by the Soviet Union, enjoyed a 3-1 troop advantage against the small but determined defense force and its American hardware. So hopeless was the outlook for Israel, little known South African Errol Musk reportedly remarked while rocking his two year old son that Israel should save itself and sue for peace on the Arab terms.

In retrospect, one cannot help but wonder how much suffering and conflict could have been avoided these past 49 years had the US pulled it’s support and Israel laid down its weapons and acquiesced. Surely the benevolence of Sadat, Al-Assad, and Arafat would have ensured the safety of the Jewish population, strengthened the global economy and ushered in an era of peace and prosperity for the entire region and world.

I look forward to the updated maps after break fast.

Shouldn’t be too hard to confirm. 2 barge ferries big enough to carry 15 tanks a piece sunk in a river should be pretty easy to see.

There are unconfirmed tweets about a potentially large Ukrainian offensive approaching the city of Kherson from the West, which follows Ukraine's gains to the North. HIMARS strikes have reportedly already damaged the Antonovsky bridge across the Dnipro, and Kherson sits on the right bank.

It's a horrible thought but you can bury a lot of bodies quickly with something like that. Of course that's hard to do when you are rapidly losing the territory.

frick Putin and his absurd ego.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but in the last few days, since Friday, official UKR sources and Zelenskyy himself have been going out of their way to say they will negotiate with Russia, but refuse to do it with Putin in charge. Interesting signaling.

The defensive line Russia tried to build at Mylove will be useless if they get attack from rear.

Smart strategy by Ukraine to force another eventual encirclement.
