If so, it was a terribly dumb strategy.

The Biden administration has been on the wrong side of this thing from the get go. Kyiv was asking for multiple western weapons prior to the invasion but all they got were stingers and Javelins. Biden was trying to get Zelensky to flee when he and Ukraine wanted to fight. The delay in missile systems, tanks, fighters etc are all examples of piss poor decisions by the Biden administration.

Maybe. To me it feels more like because we have such a sophisticated military that other countries think we also have good military minds.... which IMO isn't necessarily a given. And even if they are highly competent militarily, the US hasn't fought a conflict like this one since Korea or WW2, and the technology is totally different now. We just don't have current battlefield experience doing the type of fighting that is going on.

We have such a sophisticated military that we overestimate the sophistication of our opponents. Ironically, the same flaw that allowed us to win our Independence from Britain's superior military at the time.

But the collective "First World" thought this kind of confrontation was history... and it would not be happening now if Putin was not a dictator with no checks on his power... who else in Russian society would this war benefit more than hurt?

Now for real news:

ukraine just fired the general in charge of Kharkiv

1000s of civilians have been evacuated

Russia has taken nine villages in the surrounding area

Id expect the city to fall in the next 48 hours

ukraine is losing territory with more quickness every day now. They just dont have the people, munitions, or the will to fight. And 37 billion (yes the rest went to other "programs") is not going to change their life.

Time to stop this waste of lives on both sides. Sit down at the table and give Russia what they have, or risk losing the entire country, which looks quite plausible at this point.

I'm certainly not going to defend Dugout Jake, but is there a source for this?

If Ukraine were already flying F-16s, it would help.
This may yet happen and the timing could be significant for Biden's campaign. In spite of the delays from the US and the fact that the planes would be coming from other countries, Biden would still take credit.

Like it or not, Biden can use US support for this war as a very strong campaign advantage and Trump cannot. The White House would also present their 'control' over a potentially disasterous Europen-wide war as the mature alternative to their opponent. If the White House can gain some control over Netanyahu, Biden will look very strong on foreign policy. Trump has a lot of work to do to negate this.

I have no love (or even respect) for the Biden regime, but this smells like bullshite to me. The dolts in Washington are stupid, but surely they’re not stupid enough to tell NATO allies something this stupid.

I’ve been seeing multiple report of “tactically significant” Russian gains in their offensive around the Kharkiv area. But to predict the city to fall in the next 48 hours is at best premature.

ETA: if something like this were to happen, then the Ukrainian front is in worse shape than even I have thought. It would take a significant collapse of the Ukrainian front for the city to fall that quickly. And while I know they’re hard pressed, I don’t thing matters have deteriorated to that point yet.

That would require encirclement and Russia doesn't have enough bodies to do that

Surely you're talking about Vovchans'k and not Kharkiv?

That’s pretty much what I was thinking. I’ve seen some maps of the Russian gains and none appear close to achieving a “cauldron” battle.

Wikipedia lists the population of Vovchansk at 17,459. It's not a city.

Yes, but I dont think its even 48 hours, sounds like the Russians are already taking runs at the city.

Russia wants the entire country and their demands are just that...

"Waste of lives"

Now, what could possibly make Ukrainians believe that Russia would not be good for them as far as the value of their lives? I mean, could there be any events recently or in the past that would make them think Russians don't respect their lives?

Ok, wikipedia also says it's a city.

"Vovchansk is a city in Chuhuiv Raion, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Population: 17,459."

Biden can also point to his son being on the Burisma board and getting paid 80 grand a month. Biden's reputation for Ukraine is way lower than whale poop

Wow, the delusion and lack of self-awareness here.
