I never accused you of being pro Russia, I was correcting your incorrect analysis. We started out as pro-British, we are now pro-British. Has nothing to do with why we broke away from those fricktards.

Absolutely agree the USSR was terrible and the world is better today. Ukraine and all the former Soviet states were hoatages to communism and fanatics.

Ukraine and Russia were even rivals under the USSR. That’s why Vlad wanted Crimea so much (yes and huge strategic value too). Russia was in first, but when Ukraine joined up, the commies gave Crimea to Ukraine as a door prize. This pissed off a bunch of Russians.
I hate to say it this way, but if this campaign gets drawn out, it might be Putin’s downfall and that would be good for the world.
Poor people in Ukraine, though. Should have never come to this.

Not in your or my perspective, but for Putin this is. This is a valuable resourse that left and he cannot bring Russia/former USSR back into power without. This is about the economic resources and the ability to build a buffer around modern Russia.

I agree with you I would hate to see this thing get drawn out. My worry having spent 20 years serving in uniform is US getting involved in this situation. If we are going to fight then lets do it but I have learned that war is just for making the rich more money on the backs of the middle and lower class.

If the USA wanted to refute Putin in Ukraine, it wouldn't be anything but a thought, with convential military forces.
But they have nukes and he could be crazy enough to use them. We could also take him out personally.

To be a true comparison Texas would allow future expansion of Russian forces allowing them to establish military bases in Texas with missles pointed at the remaining parts of the US.
A better comparison would be the Cuban middle crisis with Ukraine being Cuba, and Russia being the U.S.
Putin warned many times that expanding NATO eastward into Ukraine would have consequences, He threatened again a year ago that if consideration for Ukraine to be allowed into NATO continued he would move troops to the border.

We see eye to eye on that. We could shut this down in a week but our populous cannot stomach what it would take to do it. War is hell and should be the last resort.
