I get my muffuletta fix at Paulie’s Poboys. Their bread is correct on the “whole sandwich” but they also make a smaller version on a poboy bun. They spread a little mayonnaise on one side and homemade olive salad on the other. I normally get my fix at the store in front of Royal Oaks CC but their original location is in Southside Place. Also, their Original and Supreme poboys are much better than what Antone’s has devolved into.
Tony’s Italian Deli up in Montgomery has long been talked about as having an excellent muffuletta, though I’ve not made the trek to judge for myself. They recently opened a location on Fry Road in Katy, making a taste test more plausible. A trip to Galveston is never complete without a great muffaletta from Maceo’s Spice Shop.
