It blows my mind that perkins hates nola so much. We paid him 7 figures to just hang out for a season. He repaid us by getting into AD's ear about teaming up with LeBron as soon as he could.
Like what have the pelicans done to perk that he hates us so much? It's not like he was some long time pel that we mistreated after he gave us his all. He was an end of the bench vet for one season.

He spent plenty of years in a small market too, so it’s not like he was used to living in LA or NY then just suddenly found himself in NOLA. I’ve never been to OKC but I can’t imagine it being a destination area for pro athletes.

I always assumed this is why. Sour grapes that we didn’t offer him 2 more years when his career was obviously over (he played in 1 NBA game total after his stint with us).

Perkins is talking here about Dell Demps, the Pelicans’ general manager while Perkins was there in 2015-16. Perkins says Demps “told me when I got to the Pelicans ‘Wow, we never had a leader like you. I appreciate you, we want you to retire here, we want you to be here the next two or three years, blah blah blah.’
When Perkins’ contract was up that summer, there was no two-year deal for the vet minimum Perkins was hoping for. Only a call from Demps, who said, “I think we’re going to move in a different direction.”

I assumed sour grapes was a large part of it.
And I vaguely remember some rumors like this from then.
Which of course trends. Demps was reportedly terrible at the player relations part of his job.
Felt like no one had anything but at best, neutral things to say about him. But lots of shite like this.
Remember, Temple was supposed to be on this team at one time, but Demps backed out at the last minute and left him hanging.
