Absolutely. Even if you were able to remove the spear head, walking would have been next to impossible and infection was not a possibility, but a certainty. Not a good way to go.

Dipping that tip in some fecal matter was a high probability as well as they knew even a flesh wound would lead to slow painful death.

That almost certainly would have been an amputation if the guy survived the initial injury.
