The wife is looking at different vacation places and Dreams Playa Mujerus in Cancun is tops on the list. What can anyone tell me about this place with 3 kids (12,10,6)?

Hearing talk about gang shootings too, but I don’t much stock in rumors. It is Mexico and I figured staying in the tourists areas would be fine.

I haven't been to this particular Dreams location but have stayed a couple times at Tulum and another 1 in Cancun that I can't remember the name right now.

Looking at Playa Mujerus, it looks very nice. The Dreams properties IMO are usually pretty consistent, so I don't think you can go wrong.

As far as safety, you're much safer in a Cancun resort than you are in an American city.

Then why do they get a bad rep about Cancun being unsafe?

Because if you're an idiot and go into the wrong part of town bad things can happen just like anywhere. Other than getting shaken down by cops for phony speeding tickets the hotel zone in Cancun is about as safe as it gets.

My family went to Cancun back in the 90’s. Tried taking a public bus and going somewhere. Ended up in the wrong part of town, the only gringos on the bus, and the bus had bullet holes in it. Made a good story.

Because people have a fear of the unknown. All of the people I know that say they will never travel to Mexico because it's dangerous have never actually been to Mexico. They watch too many sensationalized news shows.

Bring a box of straws. Resort doesn’t use them in an attempt to help the enviro, at least that’s what they told us when we were there.

View from rooftop infinity pool. Need inspira access to go up there. It’s nice up there but not sure if it’s worth the extra money. We only went up a couple of times.

Headed to Excellence Playa Mujeres on Wednesday. We've done several TRS (part of Palladium Group) resorts and a couple of Secrets resorts. We are partial to the TRS properties but are looking forward to Excellence and seeing if the more premium pricing is worth it.

Went three years ago. They were doing a lot of remodeling since it was the older of the resorts. I've been to both playa and Riveria and I have zero complaints about either. Hope you got Excellence club, I think its worth the money. I also really enjoyed that it was only about 20 min from the airport.

We did spring for the Excellence Club, wasn't sure if it was worth it - good to know!

We've been to El Dorado Royale 3x and do like the idea of this one being closer. Any tips on good restaurants, etc?

Dreams Playa Mujerus

We stated at Secrets Playa Mujerus which is the essentially the same resort just for adults only. We were able to go to the restaurants at Dreams, and it was not worth it. This was pre-pandemic and the service was slow and the food was bad. It took forever to get a table even though we had reservations. We tried the Brazilian steakhouse and the sushi restaurant and both were not worth the wait.

With regards to going to Mexico, it like going anywhere else stick to the main areas and you should be fine. I would recommend Kay Tours if you would like to do anything off property.

What do you feel makes it worth the money? I'm looking now and its about a $600 difference for 4 nights from the "two story rooftop terrace pool view" and the "excellence two story rooftop terrace ocean view".

Looks like the 2 main benefits would be the "upgraded" minibar and room service menu (not sure how "upgraded" they are), although not sure what's in the excellence club lounge.

Trying to determine if the excellence club is worth it to my wife and I.
