If we make 15% of the world supply, that means we shouldn’t drop off in what we use, just what we export. This just isn’t what actually happens because we probably export all of ours and bring it in from the farthest place we can bring it in from.

Wrong!
It says we export 15%. That means that after we use what WE need, then we sell (EXPORT) 15% of all the exported wheat that is sold out-of-country by all the world's wheat producers.

Zelensky warns that billions of people in Asia and South America may starve due to Russian blockade

President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address released Thursday that people could starve if Russia’s blockade of the Black Sea continues.

“We cannot export our wheat, corn, vegetable oil and other products that have played a stabilizing role in the global market,” Zelensky said.

“This means that, unfortunately, dozens of countries may face a physical shortage of food. Millions of people may starve if Russia’s blockade of the Black Sea continues.”

We are not running out of food. Relax. Some people somewhere might, but it won’t be Americans or Europeans. It will be the folks who rely on others to feed them for free.

What happened to Americas "amber waves of grain"?

In my opinion, one of the ways to make America Great Again. Pump our oil, grow our food, manufacturer our own goods.
Whens last time you've seen "Made in America"?
Last time I bought my pair of Thorogood work boots, that's it.

In preparation for the grain shortage the dems and Bill Gates are buying as much farm land as possible and converting it to solar farms. That should sort things out

Wheat can be a bit nuanced, more info for those interested below. US produces a ton of wheat and exports a lot, yet still imports due to regionality and type

US Exports

quote:

2020, United States exported $7.04B in Wheat, making it the 3rd largest exporter of Wheat in the world. At the same year, Wheat was the 35th most exported product in United States. The main destination of Wheat exports from United States are: China ($927M), Philippines ($810M), Mexico ($760M), Japan ($662M), and South Korea ($357M).

US Imports

quote:

2020, United States imported $448M in Wheat, becoming the 32nd largest importer of Wheat in the world. At the same year, Wheat was the 486th most imported product in United States. United States imports Wheat primarily from: Canada ($429M), France ($9.45M), Argentina ($5.93M), United Kingdom ($3.02M), and Italy ($448k).

Also, the dwarf, Frankenstein wheat (unhealthy) that we have today is completely different than what your grandma used to bake with. It’s a hybrid created for quick yields and can be seeded to harvested in 3 months. So the supply can be quickly remedied by any country.

This was done to alleviate world hunger.

This info is fear porn.

Unless things have changed since I last studied PL480 many years ago...this is not good for Africa.
We had programs to ship surplus wheat to Africa via NGOs.

There are some who have presented theory that shipping surplus wheat to Africa was not good for Africa.

In doing so, it prevents Africa from taking the measures, putting in the effort and funding on their own to fight desertification and build agricultural.

So no, just like welfare it promotes dependency, poverty, malnourishment, and violence.

In a vacuum or normal world, absolutely. But this is another risk in a long list at the moment, along with fertilizer supply/cost, diesel costs, lack of trucks, shift from corn to soy, labor shortages, shite the list is huge.

Fair enough….I didn’t say it would be easy. It could be done though
