Chrome kits look cheesy, especially with wide wheels and tires.

Renegades are desirable. Match the paint and decals as new. It will good and hold value better than custom colored paint.

I'm amazed the woke haven't come after the Renegade name.

Yeah...the term originates from the Medieval Latin Renegatus, which became the Spanish renegado, but it was applied to Indians who refused to go to the reservation or discontinue their religious beliefs.

I'd give anything to have my old 1978 CJ Renegade Golden Eagle back. First new vehicle I bought myself. Sold it when I went in the Navy in 1981.

I pulled my air out of my 1986 CJ last year when I put the rebuild back in it. In the 16 years I owned it, I turned it on twice to make sure it worked. Last time I tried it, it didn't blow cold.

you must live in a higher latitude than most here. In BR there is usually about 2 good weeks in the fall and 2 weeks in the spring where it is enjoyable to ride around. This year was a outlier there was a month or 2 in the spring. It just get too hot and too cold here too fast.

Well, because I have to...

Maybe try the old WWII 319 Olive Drab

20 stands for 1/4 ton truck and the serial numbers are the exact numbers of the Jeep itself.

Nope, I just sweat. I usually only drive it in the fall and spring, daily or evenings during summer.

I haven't driven it much lately because my brand new (450 miles) throwout bearing is singing a little too loud for me. I've got to get to it and grease it, which will be a huge pain. It's been semi disassembled for a couple of months, waiting to slide the trans back.

Old School

I had the same looking CJ7 I got for graduating high school in 1990 from my dad except where this one is brown, mine was black. My CJ was a 1980. Same stripes on hood and side along with Renegade on side of hood. Also had the same kind of top although I never kept it on except in Winter. Dad bought it from a friend of his that was getting a divorce. Dude had sunk a small fortune in it and didn't want his soon to be ex to get it in the divorce. Dad bought it for $3000. It originally came with a 304 but the guy swapped in a 350. It had heavier axles and a 4" lift with 35" Buckshot Radial Mudders. Pretty much all of it was aftermarket and that thing would go. It had headers and glasspacks with exhaust that turned out before the back tires. Loud as frick. I still lived at home when I got it and my curfew was 12 since I was still in high school. I snuck out all the time but had to leave it in neutral and push that bitch half way down the street before I could crank it. Every neighbor knew when I was coming in or out. It was probably not the best vehicle a 18 year old should be given because you needed to be an acrobat to try to frick in it.

304 v8? I remember a 301 and 401 but not the 304. That should be an awesome ride.

here’s what I’m working with… have owned it for 24 years now… not a midlife crisis project, just bringing it back to what it should be.

I sold it in '96 to a guy who was the commanding officer at the Alabama Air National Guard. He retired and later was a pilot in TX I believe. His parents lived in MS. I reached out to see if I could buy it back but discovered he had passed away. I saw one picture of the Jeep his step daughter (maybe) sent me. He changed the color from yellow to green. He's not your daddy is he?

Have decided to go with the original 81 color of gray metallic. Will need to figure out which renegade decal pack looks better red or blue group. Leaning red. Apparently black wasn’t an original decal packet option.

If you are doing that much work it’s a jeep they are bringing good money if you do a color change do a full color change. I wouldn’t worry about it

Honestly none of it will matter with a jeep. It will be worth the same either way. I would personally pick a color you like and still badge it renegade but I like that badging set up.
