No, that’s called an option, not leverage. You got one thing right.

At this point in the draft he does not have the leverage to use that to his favor to get more money. He simply has that option to fall back on. You are totally misusing the application.

It's both. Why do players commit to schools that they sometimes have no intention of ever going to? To leverage that option. A school like LSU has a big draw for recruits, and teams know this. They don't know how serious the commitment is, and so players use that as leverage. We talk about this every year. This theory is not of my own invention. It's conventional wisdom.

Now if he doesn't get drafted at all, we might find out that it's because he wanted to come to school more than he wanted to go to the minors, so he priced himself super high. As a prospect, you want to get the most money you can, but you have to also be realistic. I'd imagine he'd bring his number down if every team he talked to said "sorry, we just can't give that much to one player". But he might only be slightly out of their price range for now, and could be a risk later when some teams have left over money to throw around.

The leverage pertains more to early rounds, and he certainly still has it. That doesn't mean he gets drafted. We don't know who wants him, or how badly they want him. I'm selfishly hoping the interest isn't high enough to sign him away from LSU.

Dude. For the love of god please stop spamming this board. Your point has been made. At this point this is just an exercise in hubris and lack of self control.

Let it go and move on.
