Wow…. You are better than this bud….. a large majority of people born after 1995 would have a very tough time surviving in the 60’s and 70’s.

Right then they can piss and moan about how they get passed over and management doesn’t value them.

(See two random responses above )

I don’t know, maybe they could try and have some self pride in the job they do. But no one has ever demanded they take pride in anything. Not even themselves. Just keep making excuses and rationalizing why they suck while simultaneously blaming everyone else for the fact that they suck.

This is what happens when you put the dollar above people. Greed above reason and modesty.

Corrupt politicians selling out their neighbors.

Housing costs soaring so corps and flippers can make a few extra bucks.

Businesses doing the bare minimum for their employees. Long-term health be damned, just make sure to get the next earnings report is higher than the last.

bullshite.

It's impossible to work 84 hours a week. And to do it every week for 7 months?

Did you also have to walk up hill both ways in the snow to get to that job?

Well yeah. They know they're entering a workforce that the boomers have skewed by a half generation or so by remaining working for too long. Their prospects of high advancement are almost 0 because of this. Why put forth the effort?

Part of the poor engagement is because of what corporate culture has morphed into. The prevailing model is basically the meat-grinder model. Extract as much as you can from your employees, don't reward them, give them the bare minimum, make the board happy, then kick them to the curb at the slightest sign of trouble or decreased profit. Once they're out, find some other chewed up person to fill the gap, rinse and repeat.

Now, there are plenty of lazy shitheads out there, but people will point to that as the root cause and not these soulless business models that basically treat their employees like worthless human capital.

From a management prospective and a 50+ year old, I can tell you quiet quitting is a thing. I believe it's not just the employees fault. Employees are asked to go above and beyond with nothing to show for it. You pay someone for a job to do and then gripe when they do that job but nothing more. Someone goes above and beyond hoping that they will get a promotion or a raise but nothing happens so they stop or move on to another company. That's on the company and management.

Companies are going to have to change the way they do things because good employees are going to leave and work for someone who has figured it out. Gone are the days where employees are loyal to companies and stay for 20+ years. These younger generations aren't going to give you more than what they signed up for without seeing something in return and I don't blame them.

Can’t blame some of them, the advances in information technology that were supposed to make the workplace more efficient just created more things that could be done. More ways to measure, analyze, rack, and stack, requiring more reports to generate, producing more emails questioning the report, and on and own. People spending all their working lives lives producing nothing of value.

I can tell you never worked in a plant during a project. You probably don’t see those hours at the mall.

I find people like you who someone derive some semblance of identity from their jobs odd. We just need that Auburn fan whose entire social life involves work to come post in this thread.

Because as you push your limits and develop a serious work ethic, you become better and more valuable. The key is then figuring out how to capitalize on that value. People need to learn to work on themselves more and worry about their circumstances less. Doing that always leads to a better situation.

Employers do the bare minimum for employees but are mad when the reverse is true? Sounds like if you want more out of employees you should pay them to do more.

These kids don't really have opportunities to advanced to be passed over. Your mindset doesn't reflect that reality.

There is a reason this site gets it's most traffic from 8:00 to 5:00. People do the minimum for myriad reasons and have for ages and ages.
