someone uploaded a tape that was made at the end of the decade and i find things like this absolutely fascinating. how things have changed in the way we consume sports media, how the game has evolved, and just as a window into life in the country from 50 years ago
one of the plays highlighted from 1970 comes from the LSU/bama game and it looks like the REC was alive and well back then

The 70s marked the beginning of the African American in SEC play. For the first time in Coach Bryant's career, he was allowed to recruit the best athletes in his own state.
No coincidence that BAMA had the most successful decade of wins of any college football team in history at that time.

Thanks for the find. I used to watch the CFB highlight show each Sunday hosted by Bill Fleming. This looks like exactly the same format. Great stuff

REC was much worse back then. Bama would get an extra SEC game against Vandy so they could claim the SEC title on winning percentage even when they would have otherwise tied for it

That and he got to hand out 200 scholarships really unleashed his drunken genius.

Speaking of 70s college football, I like watching the full games on YouTube especially with the commercials intact. It’s like stepping into a time machine and taking a snapshot into the past.

This is also a good one. The 1981 season was a revolving door in the No. 1 spot all year.

Uh...that was USC, if we're talking about the 70s.
