Proud dad here. I'd rather bait hooks and get fish off hooks then catch them myself. Seeing the excitement in his eyes is better than anything.

Nothing wrong with the boy jerking white perch out of the water.

Best times I had as a kid was catching white perch. He knew how and where and when to go.

My son is now 44 and I can vividly remember his first fish. We were fishing a farm pond owned by a friend of the family and he hooked into a nice size perch while using a small fiberglass rod with a Zebco reel on it.

He started jumping up and down when he realized there was a fish on the hook and started yelling "Dad, I catched a bish, I catched a bish" over and over.

Was about the same age as you're little one.

Thanks for posting. Made me remember back to great times like this with my dad and later with my son. Also, not ashamed to say it made my throat a little lumpy.

Do something about the gala siding at your sons feet. Real easy for him to slice his ankle.

Enjoy it while you can my man! I took both of my kids fishing since they were 2yrs old. Now that they are in their 20’s, they both would rather do other things. Pains my soul.

My 5 year old loves fishing, and he's caught a ton of bass and bream with a few crappie and redfish. My favorite thing about him fishing is that every time he hooks a fish he still acts like it's the first fish he's ever caught.
