2:14 - 2:17 of video. I know I’ll get downvoted, even though I wish the call of lsu possession had held up, but that was the correct call with current rules.

Alabama touched the ball while out of bounds before LSU ever maintained control. Control was never maintained before the ball eventually hit the ground out of LSU hands. Rule sucks. Similarly in a kickoff, if the ball comes to rest at the 1 yard line but receiving team can get to it in time to put one part of the body out of bounds and touch the ball, it’s automatically flagged a kick out of bounds and ball is brought to the 35 yard line. That rule sucks too…depending on what side your own.

No. The rule is stupid and was applied correctly.

Rule needs changed.

I have combed the NCAA rule book and the specific situation is not addressed.

It is specifically stated that if the OOB player touches the unpossessed ball it is dead.

However if you rule that Brooks has the ball and is a runner because he is not down then he is not down and the play is still live. The OOB player touching him does not make him down. In this scenario the runner has fumbled and the ball is live and if the OOB player then touched it again the ball is LSU's

Where does the rule say “control must be maintained”. He had control and his knee was on the ground. Dead ball. Just like Mond at aTm in the OT game.

Plus the video is inconclusive as to whether the Bama ever touched the ball. We have heard multiple times you can’t assume on replays.just like the tip. Inconclusive

He wasn’t a legal participant when he touched the ball. He became an extension of that sideline and therefore the ball was also considered OB at that spot.

The only thing you need to know is that if the roles were reversed on that play, Replay booth would not have overruled the call on the field. SEC officiating is a cesspool of corruption and favoritism. Do you really think that SEC headquarters being in Birmingham, being staffed with mostly Alabama graduates, does not influence how they call games?
