Shouldn’t this be a PSA not to ride MARTA to the SECCG?

Absolutely. The train for all practical purposes ends IN the airport, basically. You'll get off your plane, follow directional signage to domestic baggage claim, then when you get there look for a sign that says somethign about ground tranport or marta I think, it's off to teh side. You'll walk through a sliding door and you're now at the marta platform, it's super easy.

I live in Georgia, so I have plenty of experience with MARTA. I used it for the SECCG and Peach Bowl in 2019 with no issues, and it saved a lot of headache once I got back to Doraville both times. It also goes right to the airport, so I've also used it for that.

I don't live in Georgia, but pre-2020 I had ridden the MARTA multiple times with no issues. In the summer of 2021 a friend and I were visiting a friend in north Georgia. We had a Saturday mid-morning flight back home and figured we'd just get dropped off at the northern most MARTA stop, North Springs, and ride the rest of the way to the airport...as I had done previous times before.

When we boarded it was us and about 4 black people on the car. Nothing odd there. It's Atlanta. However, one black guy appeared to be agitated and kept muttering what sounded like gibberish or prayers. Again, no big deal. Atlanta is a large city and there are going to sometimes be crazy people on public transportation.

But then the guy kept staring at us. His muttering became louder and more agitated with each passing stop. Soon it became loud enough to make out he was saying racist shite such as "white devils!"..."cracker arse mother frickers!" He was rocking back and forth. At the Medical Center stop we made the decision to get the hell out of there and uber the rest of the way to the airport. Given we had 10+ stops left at that point to get to the airport and the fact he was getting more and more pissed off at each stop, it wasn't worth the risk this nutjob might try something crazy.

That was the first time I'd ever truly felt unsafe on MARTA. I'm sure it will be fine for a large crowd of people traveling to a game. But that is probably the last time I will hop on unless I'm traveling to a large event.

I would recommend taking the bus instead of the train.

MARTA is for poors and locals.
This is a vacation for me- I’m paying a little extra scratch to park close.

what an idiotic take .... so you want to pay more to have a harder time getting in and out of the stadium while not allowing yourself the opportunity to imbibe at will?

You'll want to get off at the Peachtree Center station, 1 stop north of 5 points. You'll still have a several block walk to the hotel, but google maps says it's 0.4 miles and less than 10 minutes so as long as you aren't loaded down with luggage shouldn't be an issue.

When you are at the airport and getting on a marta train, the only direction it can go is north. Based on where you're getting off, you can take either the red or gold. Looking at the map in the OP you can see that while both trains go north, the red (north springs) and gold (doraville) split and go their separate ways once you get to the lindbergh station and have different final destinations. But up until that split point there's no difference, so you can hop on the first train that's available.

The Peachtree Center station exit on Peachtree st walk north 2 blocks Portman Blvd then right down the hill 2 or 3 blocks and are there! Have stayed there for several games and concerts in the ATL and the Marta rail is great never had a problem. I guess as they say can always run into undesirables especially at night. We are at the Artmore since coming late and a few more stops past that but is right across the street from station and also feel a little better going north on rail into midtown after the game then towrd the airport.
Where did NOLA go wrong? I guess back in 60's and we will never have a rail like this I dont believe!

I recommend packing some heat if you're using MARTA.

Do you know what MARTA really stands for?
When I used to go visit my LSU buddy Roy King (Former Tiger Band Director that shouldn't have been) when he was a high school band director in the Atlanta area, he told me that MARTA stood for: "Moving Americans Rapidly Through Atlanta."

Many years later when I was playing in North Georgia Pipes & Drums, I used to fly in from New Orleans and take MARTA from the Airport all the way to the furthest point North, where a band member would pick me up.

I never had any kind of problem on "Moving Americans Rapidly Through Atlanta" and enjoyed the ride while viewing all the traffic jams when the Tram got close to the Interstate.

MARTA really stands for "Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority".........

For SECCG 2007 & 2011, we stayed near the airport & took Marta to the stadium. After the 2011 game, they wouldn’t let us on the platform until they cleared out the GA fans that bailed early.

Why do people fear light-rail transportation options?

The cities that have those options love them.
You don't have to deal with the traffic or pay for parking.

I've flown in for games before at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and taken MARTA both ways. Once I didn't even get a hotel room. I flew in that morning, took MARTA to the game and back to the airport afterwards, and caught my Delta flight home that night. No hotel room, no parking or traffic hassles.
