For as bad of a passer as some of y'all claimed.

JD finished 3rd in the SEC in completion%

And 3rd in the SEC in passes completed! And the two QBs who were ahead of him in completed passes had WAY more attempts. One being Will Rogers who attempted like 125+ more passes.

Daniels actually was not bad at all this past season.

So a QB who refuses to take chances had a high completion percentage. Color me shocked.

He isnt a bad passer. Its that he hesitated and didnt throw the ball. That was the problem.

Its like he didnt trust himself or the receivers to make the throw. Instead he would pull it down and run instead of letting it fly.

What was the completion percentage for passes beyond 10 yards? Just curious.

His issue was not his ability to actually throw a football and with accuracy. His issue is being able to see the field and anticipate throws.

Smart football people can watch a player rather than just look at his stats. I get your point, he is not as bad as some say in here. But he is also not as good as a passer as his stats make him seem. A lot of sticks, slants, outs combined with A LOT of taking off and running will help your %. You have to also realize his ability or inability to read a defense puts a hard ceiling on his passing abilities, which in turn puts a ceiling on offense. Whether his running ability can overshadow his passing is the main question.

Hopefully, he develops over the off-season, because I'm afraid DCs will have him figured out quickly if he cannot strecth the field.

Idk why you think this is a good defense for Daniels. It is quite literally the result of everyone’s criticism of Daniels. He can’t read defenses and/or throw with anticipation and/or is just extremely risk averse. He holds the ball forever waiting for a wr to be wideass open, otherwise he’s taking off running or taking a sack.

His yards per catch and yards per attempt have dropped every single year he’s been in the league for 4 years.

Through 4 years of starting at QB in college football, his only comfortable pass in the entire route tree is a check down to a running back or tight end sitting down wide open underneath the zone.

JD throws to open receivers he doesn't throw open receivers. Theres a major difference and what separates good QBs from being great. He doesn't throw up a 50/50 ball 40 yards down the field on 3rd down with 1 on 1 coverage.

Like I said, he's not bad, just doesn't like taking risks.

Easy Raginred, you may be posting actual truths but let’s not let good get in the way of great!
Bottom line is we cannot be satisfied with having 3 games with under 100 yards passing this year. (Doesn’t matter what he ran for in this games)
Also, while you are singing his praises (which is arguably warranted) don’t forget to praise the game plans and coordinator for helping him be successful.

We really have both extremes. We have JD5 who refuses to throw the ball down field unless the receiver has 5 yards on the defender. Then, you have Nuss who will throw the ball into triple coverage without hesitation. JD5 is the safer bet. I hope he gains some confidence in his second year in the system.

I think it’ll be tougher to coach the gunslinger mentality out of Nuss, then it will be to get Daniels to let it fly. He’s got Malik and BTJ there so hopefully he’ll have built up a good bit of trust with those guys.

JD had a great year, but he's often too hesitant to deliver the ball. As solid as a year as he had, he likely wouldn't have been drafted. He came back because he knows he's got to step up his passing game.

I’m sorry but what bowl did we play in last year? We’re living in a world where we praise BK for turning the program around (rightfully so) but we shite on the starting QB that helped turned that same program around. Make it make sense

Where does he rank in sacks taken? Also has his ability to not take a sack improved or gotten worse as he’s been playing?

I’d expect his completion % to be high, he’d never throw the ball unless his receiver was wide arse open. Mostly, he tucked and ran and/or got sacked.

A more athletic JJ, with many of the same flaws in their passing game. And the 80 yard games and sack records to prove it.
