I think Kim Mulkey could take over this product right now and do better next year. Gettin frustrating being above average.

I’m afraid that Beth’a seat is very warm to hot. She didn’t fire Dobson like she should have and even her own specialty, pitching hasn’t been great.

Coaching is bad . Fielding and fielding decisions are subpar. Catcher position has unfortunately affected us ..
It is sad to see how Kilponen has been pitching lately. They gave this game away !
Time for SW to take a look at this program…

We are 32-7 w an RPI of 5. People tend to overreact with losses.

That being said, some of the decisions by the outfielders were terrible. And the young catcher. Hate to say this but I have quit buying into the hype for Louisiana recruits—they tend to underperform relative to their peers once they get here.

Carson being out all year definitely hurts this team more than anything.

Pleasants without power doesn’t help. (I missed her injury when it happened and still dont know what her injury was, but hopefully she’ll back to full strength soon)

Hope they get the rest of the games in this weekend.

Pray for an OU rainout because that one is gonna be ugly

The asst coaching changes should have been made last season
Why she kept the staff intact is baffling and it will end up eventually costing her the job

There is no doubt that they are better than most in the nation, but it’s not an overreaction when it’s the same problems happening for multiple years now.

We’ve “been passed up” by Arkansas and Kentucky in a Conference that’s only going to get better when OU and UT-Austin get here.

Torina appeared to have the program on the cusp of competing at the top of the conference every year, but has yet to win a conference title or tournament title. LSU as a program hasn’t won one of the conference titles since before Torina got here (tourney win in 2007).

I missed it too, but I think it’s a core or back injury.

Hopefully someone will come around and confirm.

I turned the game on in the top of the fourth and watched the LSU right fielder make an insane throw to third base with zero chance of getting the runner and allowed another Missouri runner to advance to second.

One batter later the LSU shortstop tries to make a play at the plate with zero chance of getting the runner. And the inning went on and on.

This is where the game turned. Take the out, concede the run, get out of the inning up 3.

There were numerous low-softball IQ plays today.

Glad they are hitting and the recent run has been impressive. But yes, these wins need to translate into SEC play.

Kilponen has been subpar and while softball pitchers can be work horses, we are not going to ride Berzon to where we need to be.

Again, I’m trying not to jump on the complaint wagon and am trying to just root for the team and see the end results of the 2023 season. But yes, it’s discouraging and frustrating when we see the exact same problems led by the exact same coaching staff that we’ve complained about the last five seasons or so.

Abdominal strain. Not having Pleasants at 100% has been huge.

It's was worse than one might think. In the second inning, with the bases loaded, the Missouri pitcher walked Pleasants, who cannot swing a bat. That scored a run. She then walked the worst hitter on the team, Bergeron, scoring another run. Later in the game, she walked both Pleasants and Bergeron again, then Coffey drove both of them in. So, four runs scored because the pitcher was stupid enough to walk those two hitters not once, but twice.

An abdominal strain is an injury that takes a very long time to heal. The way to cure it, is to rest. Unfortunately, LSU's bench is not deep enough to have a viable hitter replace Pleasants at the plate. Chances are, she will not be back to 100% for the rest of the year if she continues to get at bats.

I have seen a lot of fifth year senior pitchers flame out. Looks like Kilponen's flame is running out of oxygen.

I don't know what to say about the catcher, one of the most productive power hitters in high school. So far, zero home runs, hitting about .175, a couple of passed balls in today's game and could not throw anyone out. For the last couple of years LSU fans have been hoping she would be the savior of LSU softball. I'm sure she and LSU fans never thought in a million years she would not hit over .200 her freshman year. Chances are, she won't.

Taylor has a right side oblique strain, typically takes 3-6 weeks for recovery. With her still actively playing it's more likely to take 6 - 8 weeks for recovery(low pain) due to the rotational movements involved defensively, but more specifically affects her during hitting and why they are cautiously approaching her at bats.

I admit I was one who thought Bergeron would walk right in and tear up jack. And yes, I thought she’d play a big part in making us a legit WCWS contender. And maybe she will.

Maybe she was overrated. But the last few years, we’ve recruited fearsome hitters in high school that got to LSU and were mediocre to bad.

The variable the last four seasons has been the different hitters, Bergeron, etc. The constant has been Howard Dobson.

Kilponen has had some really strong outings in her career, but she’s never been a consistently dominant pitcher. She’s been the best we have, but that isn’t saying a lot.

Did I miss anything official from LSU about her injury? Seems to be really quiet from Tiger Park...

And I'm not doubting what any of you have said one bit. I've heard basically the same from a friend of hers who plays at another school.

Yeah, she has been good but seems like the spin from the LSU staff/social media etc. has been that she’s another Walljasper or Hoover. She’s at least a couple notches below those two.

Of all the LSU sports, softball is by far the most tight-lipped about injuries.

Yep, confirmed and agree with prognosis. My only question is, why not sit her 3-5 weeks and let her heal completely instead of risking a more prolonged period of inability to perform (or worse)???? I'm not Dr, but it sure seems more sensible that the team can stay afloat without Taylor for that time period for the benefit of having her full strength for the stretch run.
