I’d imagine TW batting avg with runners in scoring position is higher than his actual batting avg based on the number of RBIs he has.

It might be but driving in runs over time has proven to not be a skill.

Tommy White is a good hitter who happens to hit with men on base a lot.

Dylan Crews is an even better hitter who just has not been presented with the opportunities to drive in runs like White has.

mean, sure, but those are legitimate possibilities. In fact, Byers has walked or hit about 20% of the batters he’s faced this season…

It’s in the back of their head but not a major factor in the decision.

A bunch of punk arse bitches. It all started Thursday and continued through the weekend. They got what they deserved in multiple spots. Would have been poetic justice for them to have gotten swept.

Objectively, facing White is a better option than facing Crews in a vacuum, but I don’t believe your chances of being down by 1 with White and bases loaded is higher than your chances of being down by 1 facing Crews with a guy on 1st and 2nd, and, I’ve got to imagine the expected runs are even higher given the added rubber in scoring position. I believe the math would say walking Crews was the wrong decision, but I’m too lazy to look more into it.

Of course the run probability with a guy on 3rd will be higher. But They didn’t want to lose with crews at the plate. White had had a rough day. It was the right move

There is About 8% increase in bases loaded vs 1/2nd in scoring a run.

Last year in the mlb, there were 3 instances where the bases were walked loaded in a tie game in the 8th inning or later w/ 2 outs

Bryce Harper (former mvp)
Aaron judge (former mvp)
Yordan Alvarez (mvp candidate)

Crews falls in line with this caliber of player

Putting the go-ahead run on third was a boneheaded decision. It paid boneheaded dividends.

With pitchers who walk 20% of their batters faced to face a guy as good as White?

Either way, those 3 guys weren’t
walked in similar situations more often than not.

It’s been stated many times for many players over the years.
Especially for lower level baseball like college where there are only a few players who would even sniff triple A.

But that’s exactly what happened. Walking him directly led to their loss. Pitch to him it’s takes a hit to take the lead. Walk him and there is any number of ways to score that doesn’t even involve getting a hit.

I guess it’s different strokes for different folks, but I make him get a hit. I thought it was a dumb call by Kentucky.

Intentionally walking Crews would have made sense if the runners were already at 2nd and 3rd. They weren't.

It was a move that was made out of FEAR... not respect, and not strategy.

Kentucky's coach and players are afraid to compete head to head. That's why they are constantly trying to play little tricks and play lawyer-ball. It's not an uncommon phenomenon.

I get respecting Crews but a single scores 1 run with runners at 1st and 2nd. Walking him led to a single scoring 2 runs. Putting 2 in scoring position to face the guy that leads the country in RBIs was probably more risky than pitching to Crews with 1 runner in scoring position.

Now walking Cruse to get to White is about as dumb as dumb can be!

It's literally 50/50 if you pitch to him.

I think it was the right move.

It’s a business decision.

50.5% chance of getting an out vs 36% chance
