Totally depends on the situation...

I will open carry following a hurricane, until we get the power back on. And I will not go a lot of places during that time. Home Depot or similar, gas or similar, etc. And fwiw, I've seen plenty of people doing it then.

Otherwise, I prefer not to. As you state, it's visible; I prefer not to draw attention to myself.

When I used to go out in downtown Lafayette, some dude shoulder checked me as I'm maneuvering through the crowd. I told him to watch where he was going and he full on pointed, with both hands towards the gun on his hip. I hope he felt like a man that day.

There's the theory that if the perp is going to start shooting the place up, he will take out the visible gun first.

I carry somewhat concealed (t-shirts/golf shirts show the bulge) but I don't overtly display it. It makes the little old ladies nervous.

You won’t be the first person shot in a mass shooting.

I live in a constitutional carry state that is very, very white.

I'm a concealed carry fan all the way though. I don't want anyone to know I'm packing. I just don't think I should have to jump through hoops to do it. I'd open carry on my own property or fishing or whatever.

Yup. Which is why I love living in a constitutional carry state now.

I actually took notes on houses we looked at once moving here. Of the houses that weren't new construction, I think we were at 68% or so that had a gun safe installed in the house.

God I love this place.

You are an idiot, and making yourself a target. If I was a person that was going to do do some ill will id either shoot you first, or wait for you to turn your back, pull your own gun from you and use it against you,

There is a reason you go concealed. Not sure if I want every Tom Dick and Harry carrying a gun just bc they can. Can’t imagine the amount of people that would be caught in the crossfire from those that have no business carrying.

I do. It keeps the usual fricknuts very, very cognizant of those around them.

Not going to be much of a crossfire if the people willing to open fire know they'll be the first bitches dropped if they do.

Around here if you get caught in the crossfire it'll most likely be from some urbans shooting sideways, not from some soccer mom with her purple Ruger.

I have been in law enforcement for almost 30 years. The sight of someone open carrying makes me cringe. A LEO will always have his hand near the firearm to keep someone from trying to take it. That comes from training you receive. I see people in public who are oblivious to exposing the weapon to everyone. My first thought when I see this is, someone is going to take their weapon from them and use it against them. Cover it up, conceal it, do something. Stop trying to be a billy bad-arse when you have no clue about weapon retention.

They aren’t gonna announce “Mr. Open Carry man, I’m about to start blastin’”

They’ll shoot you first and without notification

And in your experience have you had any issues with regular folks carrying? Hell, when someone pulls me over they know I might be armed already and I tell them I am. Never been an issue.

My lack of face tats might help too though

Open carry has to be the stupiest things to do since putting one of those blue stripe American flags on the back of your truck.

Not really. Had a former LEO sway me otherwise. If more people open carried, thugs would be harder pressed to commit any crime with them people around. At least violent crimes. With concealed, the thug don't know people are armed and carries on with violent crime. Just a thug knowing a gun is around would be enough of a deterrent.

I'm talking about constitutional carry, not open carry. I want everyone in this state to realize that every single person may be packing, concealed, without a permit.

Try with some basic reading fundamentals?

The only problem with open carry is, if you’re in a situation like being a bystander during an armed robbery or a mass shooting, you’re likely to be the first target of the shooter since they know you are a threat to them.

If you’re concealed carrying, they just might think you’re another potential victim and not pay much attention to you, thus giving you a chance to get the drop on them.

But the chances of these situations are slim.

FIFY. Especially if you're white in a blue city.

A jury of my "peers" would be a major problem for me. It's absolutely best just to live where most are like-minded if you can.

Only because law abiding citizens aren't going Batman. Get 100 Batmans to go and eradicate criminals using firearms. I know Batman doesn't use them but this day and age, he would. Less crime.
