Years ago when I was working for a commercial GC I had a little concrete company my boss loved. The guy did shoddy work on anything aside from sidewalks. Had him pour a 6’ elevated handicapped ramp. His forms gave out on the vertical wall and the top was about 3’ wider than the bottom. Looked like shite. Had to tear it all out and redo it.

So you and your boss didn’t look at what was formed up before he placed the concrete?

He may be responsible but that’s idiotic that no one from your GC firm checked prior-especially if you knew he did “shoddy” work.

Likely this is too small of an amount to have a real legal proceeding so this is a man-to-man dispute. I would suggest you call your electrician and tell him that he should eat the bill and provide examples why. Did you give him permission to work in that area at that time? Did you give him a drawing? Was he digging using proper methods? I would've used one of those T-shape pipe locators first, I don't know where everything is in my land.

Eventually you will have to either work out a split, pay all of it, or tell him to see you in court, but either extreme is not desireable. So work out a split.

It's the law, however they do not locate or mark private property pipes. After the gas meter, electrical line after the meter box and water meter you are on your own.

How do you determine where things are underground on your property? Behind my fence I don’t where where gas lines or plumbing pipes might be bc I’ve never had to look.

Can use this detectable tape, a lot of smaller shops wont have a locator. Good ones aren't cheap and you dont use them that often, so renting is probably better.

Not everybody uses that tape, most only use it when its called for in the specs.

My electrician was digging in ground to hook up permanent power line in ground and hit my field drain pipe. Got my bill today and on the bill was for service of my plumber to fix field drain adddd to my bill from electrician.
I wasn’t home when it was done and was never asked where piping was .

This is a good bar exam question.

Lot of facts that could sway this one way or the other.

would have expected Electrician to get approval from owner prior to getting a separate contractor to do work. Fixing a field drain break? Maybe two boots and a scab of pipe 50 dollars material, 50 dollars labor

Offer to split it with him and I’m sure he will cover it. What did it cost for repair $400???

Ya, I dont really know why he didnt just fix it himself.

I dont think the electrician should eat it, but this could have been handled so much better by both parties.

Thats BS. Pay everything but the repair portion of the bill. What is he going to claim he is recovering from you if you don't pay for the repair?
