Anybody have the trackman data on skenes pitches this year? Been reading over some scouts opinions on him saying his fastball is too flat. Needs “more” movement which is crazy.

Go watch every homer he gave up all year and see what pitch he threw. Slider and change are filthy. Fastball can use more arm side run. A little upward action through the zone would make him unhitable.

It’s hard to go 2-3 times through an MLB lineup. They will get him fine tuned in Pittsburgh.

heres an idea. Granted it's one pitch and not the averages of the guys below

Verlander 94.1 mph

12.5" vertical drop
8.1" horizontal
spin: 2425 rpm

Ohtani 97.0 MPH avg

14.9" vertical
4.0" horizontal
spin: 2268 rpm

Gerritt Cole 96.9 mph

11.8" vertical
8.8" horizontal
spin: 2432 rpm

The draft nerds say the shape is not great. They say it's similar to Hunter Greene in the pros, who's a good young pitcher lol. I'm sure they can reshape it though if it's really as bad as they say it is so idk what they're worried about. I mean the pitch is disgusting so I don't see the problem

Skenes doesn’t have good extension

If you want to nitpick, that’s something critics will point out as well

His FB shape is also why we saw a lot of 2 seamers from him down the stretch.

Just threw it up in the zone

Here’s everything you want to know about Skenes’ pitch shape data

LINK

Quick hits on that if you don’t want to watch

Skenes’ extension would rank 3rd percentile among MLB pitchers

FB velocity of 97.2
Vertical break of 15.7”
Horizontal 16” to the arm side (2 seam run)

Ryan Theriot said you can throw 120. If it doesn't have movement the MLB will hit it. In the college game, he got away with it more.

The Athletic Rates & Barrels podcast this week has a nice discussion on Skenes' TrackMan data.

Cliff's notes is what many of us have already seen all season: Yes, the fastball is flat and it can (will?) get hit at the MLB level, but Skenes offsets it with very good command and he throws it harder than an eight p*ckered goat in heat. Comp on his fastball movement only is Jesus Luzardo. HIs slider is very good (almost Ohtani good) and his changeup is possibly elite. HIs overall comp leans more toward Garrett Cole or David Price if he executes all three pitches and limits the damage that can be done to his fastball.

They REALLY liked Dylan Crews. His comp leans towards Pete Alonso if he grows into his potential power or Bryan Reynolds if he relies more on plate discipline, contact and speed.

Their opinion, not mine.
