Seiko and Hamilton are both solid brands in your price range. I have a bunch of much more expensive mechanical watches yet I wear my Hamilton quartz a LOT. And I have five Seikos that I rotate in and out. Was wearing one the other night at a white tablecloth dinner and got several compliments on it.
Point being. You don't have to drop $5k to have a nice watch. But it does help.

How many watch nerds on here thought he was asking for a strap that was under 500?
Just the strap and under 500 is indeed not casual.
Are Marathons under 500? Some styles I believe used to be.
I’ve been able to find treatment for watch addiction. It’s called guitar addiction and woodworking.

I was about to jump in and recommend some bespoke stingray leather until I realized what he meant OP, I would stick with something from Tissot, Seiko, Hamilton in that price range. Try to get as few complications as possible so the dial isn't overly busy.
