Shanell Bussey did not see her son until after 9 p.m. Wednesday. She waited at the bus stop in the Parkhill neighborhood before driving to his school. That's where she learned Terry, 10, had been put on a bus just after 8 p.m. And while the district closed schools Thursday and Friday to resolve the issue, Bussey remains doubtful.

Your link indicates that they were, in fact, sitting at school in some cases. In this case they were there for 5 hours. I get that who knows what was being communicated to them, but I'm not just sitting there waiting until 10. Good on this lady for doing just that.

Are parents just not able to go pick the kids up themselves? I'd think after about 4pm I'd just go get them off the bus. I mean, as a parent, are you seriously letting your child sit on a bus until 10pm

Id imagine they had no choice. The school probably had no idea where the buses were. The young kids don't have a phone to call mom/dad. High school kids would probably be fine. But the young kids are just at the mercy of the incompetent bus drivers here.

Hahaha are you kidding?

Some of these “parents” are either drunk or high on weed and/or are too lazy to pick up their kids.

Mass firings are in orders.

It sounds like the transportation department didn’t have the bus drivers practice their new routes by doing a dry run on a weekday without students, which is a standard practice in many school districts. If they had, the problems would have been evident before any kids were picked up. This level of incompetence is just inexcusable. I can’t imagine how they can expect the “engineering” firm who designed these routes to be competent to fix anything.

Also, I wonder how long the kids were actually on the buses. If any of them were on a bus from 3-10 PM, that is a long time to go without water, a snack, or a bathroom. I hope that isn’t how it happened. Inexcusable.

could you imagine waiting for your 1st grader to get off the bus for 7 hours?

At what point, as a parent, do you get in your own vehicle and track down the bus that has your kid for hours on end after school? The bus system shouldn’t take this long, but my arse wouldn’t be sitting on the couch at 10pm or even 6pm when I’m off of work and my kid isn’t home.

That wasn't my link. I just linked the thread here, and there was more info from a poster in that thread as to the backstory and the "why" that answers many questions in this thread. It also wasn't just kids left sitting at school for hours.

80% of the kids in public school could use to go a week without 'a snack'

Obviously the government just needs to throw more money at the issue.
