My understanding is that second-third-fourth-fifth year students get tickets to all home games.

Year one kids get tickets only to 3 or 4 games that first year.

Given how big LSU has become, that seems rational to me.

It sounds like LSU didn't communicate this as well as you just did

Only freshman cannot. It’s been this way for years to allow upperclassmen the chance to go to all the games.

It wasn’t like that when I was a freshman in 2019 thankfully

Happy to be a 5th year now after seeing this shite

It was similar back in 2009. Freshman got put in a lottery to buy either set A or set B. I think it was like $12 a game or something silly. We also didn’t have to be part of TAF.

Every year after that it was all home games at $12 or $16 a piece.

I remember when I was a graduate student at LSU. I didn’t like being in the general admission section so I formed a student organization so we could get reserved seats for every game.

They need a waiting area outside the gates so when the students inside leave midway through the 2nd quarter, those outside can come in.

Let’s be real, it was communicated to freshmen in emails that you could only get half the games, but the website allowed both purchases to go through so some students tried to get both.

Actually it wasn’t communicated before today. The website had two packages and the AM game seperate. Each package said clearly “only one per package”. It didn’t say one package per student. And the site allowed for students to choose the two packages and the AM game. And purchase. If the student picked two of the same package the site would alert that you are limited to one. So they all got online and purchase both packages and the AM game. THEN…. The ticket office sent the notice that read -

quote:

It is expected that the demand for football student tickets by incoming students will exceed the available supply. As a result, the LSU Athletic Department has formulated the following plan to maximize the number of incoming students who will be awarded football student tickets.

Each student will have the opportunity to purchase one of the packages below, as well as a ticket to the game against Texas A&M. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE BOTH PACKAGES, BOTH PACKAGES WILL BE REMOVED FROM YOUR ACCOUNT AND YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE FOOTBALL TICKETS THIS SEASON.

The packages will consist of the following games: Gold Package - $29 Grambling (Sep. 9), Army (Oct. 21), Florida (Nov. 11)

Purple Package - $40 Arkansas (Sep. 23), Auburn (Oct. 14), Georgia State (Nov.16)

Texas A&M (Nov. 25) - $15. This game can be purchased in addition to whichever package you select.

All orders will have a $15 processing fee. The Collegiate Club presale will end on today at 5pm, or until tickets sell out.

And the above packages are the exact opposite of what it was on the site. The packages names were flip flopped.

But I think the threat of taking all the students tickets away is what set everyone off. The Ticket office screwed up and was threatening to take away their tickets they just paid for.

Another day, another complete shitshow with the ticket office…

They suck at everything, not just student tickets.

The issue was they didn’t send the email to after the tickets went on sale. My son got the email 10 minutes after he bought the tickets. He went to the ticket office and they fixed it for him though.

So they didn’t mention it at all in the email they sent to freshmen and transfers last week? From the OP:
quote:

LSU sends out an email last week to all freshmen and transfers stating if you want to be in the pre sale for tickets, you need to sign up for Collegiate Club.

Seems like they would have addressed the different packages in the same email, particularly if it was an email specifically sent to freshmen and transfers. If they didn’t then yeah, that’s a pretty critical omission.

See, this is what personal responsibility does for you.

I’m kind of surprised at how many parents are apparently handling their kids’ student tickets.

No. They didn't.

My kid is a freshman this year and LSU requires/offers a lot of orientation prior to classes starting. At a February admitted student weekend, we were told, "Freshman can buy season tickets for *every* home game for somewhere between $85-$100." Then, at the required Bengal Bound orientation, we were told, "Freshman have the opportunity to buy tickets to all home games for a flat fee." Then during welcome week, he receieved an email saying if he joined the collegiate club for $25, he'd get early access to student season tickets (so he did that). And we kept hearing from other parents and students to "jump on and buy them as soon as the window opens up, so you'll get them before they sell out." This morning, when the window opened at 9 am, my kid jumped online, bought both packages (which the website allowed for, charged the credit card for the total, and sent a confirmation email about his purchase). About 5 minutes after the confirmation email came across, he got another email stating there were two packages of tickets, students were only allowed to choose one, and those that chose both would have their purchase negated and get NO tickets. That email was the first time in the last 6 mos of discussing football tickets that the notion of packages of limited games was introduced. When he called me to say this happened, I assumed he was mistaken. When he forwarded me the email, I couldn't believe it. Checked with some parent groups and saw that a bunch of kids had the exact same experience.

So yeah, ticket office (or TAF? Or both?) dropped the ball here.

Thankfully, they did send out a survey to allow the kids to choose their package and hopefully will straighten out the charges, but it's not like 100s (or more?) of freshman and/or their parents just ignored that this was the process. As far as we could tell, LSU changed the process (or kept it a secret) until after lots of kids had already bought their tickets.

Shame on LSU. Any student should be able to go to any home game at no cost.

My first purchase was in 2001. I got in line at about 4am and it was already backed up to South Stadium Drive. We didn’t have priority back then. It was first come first serve.
