Also, the UDISC app is widely used for locating and rating disc golf courses. I don't use it, but you may also be able to track your performances as well.. not sure.

I would highly encourage ALL Disc Golfers to use UDISC. Each city has a designated admin who can pull statistics and use it to lobby on behalf of players.

Not only that, but the flooding the last few years has been ridiculous. I miss having greenwood as an after work quick course. Are there any local clubs these days in br? I dont facebook and i know there used to be a group on there.

We run a non-profit group called The Whiskey Discs

Email whiskeydiscsllc@gmail.com and I’ll send you info on our leagues and message forum. We have guys on the course every day
Our group is very cool and has players of all skill levels

This is what I'm doing. I'm going to work more on my rotation and follow through. I believe I'm putting too much arm swing and rolling the wrist.

Watch this video. It debunks the “serve the pizza” finish when throwing a forehand. I made big improvements in accuracy when I did this. He also says to face the target like you’re throwing a baseball and not to throw the disc forehand with your body not facing the target.

Scott Stokely stop serving the pizza

Started 2 months ago and got hooked. Got 45 games in during that first 2 months . I’m old and have major back and neck trouble, but I can get by with a forehand flick of the wrist without killing myself. Backhands are just too much body whip for me. Driving is my weakness but my approach shots are very accurate. And I’m already almost automatic putting from 20 ft. or less. Sank around 10 putts of 40-50 ft. already, with a long of 90 ft. Shot an even par round on the short course at Bogue Chitto already, but long courses would kick my arse since my drives are usually under 200 ft.
Thought I had enough discs, but then discovered different plastics so I’m fast approaching 20 discs now. Trial and error. I’ll never be great at it, but it’s an easy enough game to get decent enough to have a fun time.
Played Parc des Familles a few times and love the added bonus of searching for canebrake rattlers while playing. I actually discovered the course when I went snake hunting in that area. Beautiful course. Bogue Chitto just seems like a tree fest at first in comparison but is really fun once you learn the course.

I’m outside Birmingham and there are 5 courses within 30 minutes but I’m stoked because they are about to build a 9 hole and 18 hole course 5 minutes away

That must be what I've gotten into the habit of doing. I was throwing a reliable forehand and it's gone array. Thanks.

Any of you crazy enough to spend $150 plus for a damn Time-Lapse? I'm a huge fan of MVP/Axiom. They just feel great in my hand but those first run Simon Line disc are crazy!

I hooked one into the water on #18 at Solomon yesterday. That water never phased me in the past. I nearly aced this basket this summer. Now my forehand is just all over the place.

Been playing for 22 years. Was introduced to it in my junior year of high school. Played very casually for about seven years until I found out there were leagues and tournaments, got into those pretty heavily for a while. Peaked at a pdga rating of 1010. Then tournaments started filling up way too fast and soured me on them, haven’t thrown a rated round in over 8 years now. These days I prefer a more casual beer league type setting, unfortunately where I live now that’s not an option, and even though I was a founder of two leagues where I grew up I have a hard time drumming up support for a more casual but still competitive league. Everyone here has gotten too focused on score and not the “fun” aspect. Or they feel I’m stepping on the local sanctioned league’s toes and don’t want to rock the boat.

the comraderie is fantastic- used to travel a lot for work and would bring a few discs. Could always count on meeting new people at the course that were willing to show me around, always friendly as can be. Also took my wife out to a course a couple hours away and she was shocked at my lack of concern in regards to theft or crime, when I’m normally reminding her to follow basic rules like don’t leave your purse in the damn car in plain view.

It’s a damn shame that more municipalities don’t recognize how much return they can get for the relatively small investment when building a decent course. A neighboring town just spent $200k building a bmx park that nobody uses yet could have spent a tenth of that on a phenomenal disc golf course that would bring in people from across the state and many other disc golf “tourists”.

That’ll be the price once the stock runs come out which is what I’ll wait on.

The crazy price is just for the first runs and the special edition from the MVP open.

I thought about going. My boss has a cabin 20 minutes away but I have to go plant food plots.

I have Big Rip and Pot of Gold on my radar for 2024.

I played Heat Seaker (Lafreniere), Couyon Smash (St. Julien, Pa Davis, Magnolia) and Hatchet Job (Highland) this year. Got a 840 rating so hopefully I can get closer to 900 with another year of playing.

I see tons of people playing at the course where my boys have football practice. Looks fun as hell but I've never tried it

One other thing to note especially for older players is don't get caught in the max weight "myth". Sure pros and elite players (who throw 500+ feet) get benefits from max weight drivers mere mortals that don't play in wind tunnels (ie Emporia KS) can get a distance advantage by looking for lighter drivers. They suck in high wind but even if it is all you have in your bag you can work around it by throwing level and giving up some distance.

Discs are an addictive part of the sport even if you don't collect them. I carry 7 of the same driver mold each with a different flight pattern from a couple I can turn over to really heavy fade. I have several of each in reserve which cuts down on the angst of losing your favorite disc.

Most of the people I know that came from a golf background become disc whores because it is relatively cheap. I am forever checking the Infinite and Marshall Street websites to see if they have any of my favorite discs in just the right color/plastic/weight in stock.

Do you go to a field and just throw? I did but I got away from it and I need to get back into that. I’m going to throw understable only then stable to learn the characteristics of throwing different types of discs and really drill fundamentals into my muscle memory. Throw nothing really hard but focus on smooth and repeating it over and over.

Josh with Overthrow Disc golf on YouTube is great for instructional videos. Changed my step up and pull back and I’m getting out to 400 feet all of a sudden. I just need to do field work to keep progressing.
