This is the same problem they had in Houston and they actually had a larger number of cars at their Houston auction last year, but didn't return. They put on a good event in Scottsdale, but they can't figure out how to replicate it elsewhere.

I mean, there are only so many vehicles out there. The number of auctions they're all having now has to suck up that supply. Factor in that people may be choosing to sit on them right now due to the economy, and this being a new show with a lot of unknowns going into it, consignments not rolling in is easy to understand.

Not really. There are tons of vehicles out there and, like I said, Mecum had 1,600 in Dallas last weekend. Barrett was purchased by an events company and appears more focused on the event side and not the car side, IMO.

, Mecum Auctions had almost 1,600 actual cars at their four day event in Dallas last weekend. Based on that alone, I wouldn't expect to see them coming back.

Mecum also has a lot of 'garbage' cars in their docket.

Fwiw, I dont see nola being a yearly stop. They could just be using their 4th event of the year as a rotating site between a few places.

The marketing for this has not been great in the area.

Saw one of the cars on a trailer on i10 and Power last week. There was a billboard in the same stretch. Didn't put it together because the marketing has been that bad.

Honestly didn't put it all together until Tulane marketed their event for their formula car.

If anyone is planning to go on Friday morning and would be willing to stop by Lot 375 (1971 Corvette) to take a few photos to send me I would be grateful. In the early 2000's, my dad and I purchased a black (not original paint color) 1971 corvette with the LT1 hood and no rack on the back to rebuild. If memory serves, the original color was war bonnet yellow. I think there is a decent chance this is the same car. I obviously don't have the old VIN handy to compare, but there are some features I would be able to recognize. I'd love to see the trim tag on the door pillar if it was coded for the original yellow paint job. So if anyone is going and would like to check it out for me, please email me at amarch3@gmail.com.

It won't be there. For all 1971 Corvettes, the location of the Trim & Paint information is stamped on a plate attached to the left front body hinge pillar, where the door is hinged by the front windshield. It looks like this:

When you and your Dad had the car, did it have the original engine? It is clear from the pic that is not the original motor. GM moved the oil dipstick from L to R in 1980. A lot of things missing in that area as well which sometimes be expected for a car that old and a rebuilt/salvage title, but it may also give some clues if it could be the car your Dad had.
The trim tag should be coded 989 for War Bonnet Yellow.
Hope someone is able to help you.

Altimas. Lots and lots of Altimas.
The “NOLA lean” Altima version involves having two donut spares installed simultaneously on one side of the vehicle.

An expired “brake tag” and no license plate completes the trifecta.

A missing bumper gets bonus pernts.

Brit car guy once tried 4 donut spares on a C63 AMG with 6.2 V8. "A bit slippy." The Drive - YouTube

And staying on topic, I'm hoping to check out the auction after work tomorrow. Cars, booze and music? Sign me up.

I think that's what he was getting at. Sadly, 100k at these events now is basically chump change

Yeah. $200k is up there, $250k is what I’d consider “big money”. Problem is the market is seemingly soft for everything except Porsche right now. The Ford GT’s should be big sellers, they’re selling on BaT for $350+. Unless I overlooked a car, I can’t see much else going that high.

Mecum auctions are better. BJ is just super high end cars. They cater to fewer buyers. Mecum has their share of high end cars, they also have lower cost and daily drivers. Much more directed at regular folks.

Really appreciate the response.

When we had it, it was the original engine. We pulled it and rebuilt it with new gaskets and hoses after cleaning it. Added an aftermarket exhaust system to it and new headers. Last thing I did was put a custom box and CD player in the "trunk" behind the seats with a remote control. It was an impractical car by all measures but I loved it. The lines were just perfect in my opinion. I washed that thing almost daily as an 18 year old, I thought I was the sh*t.

If memory serves we sold it in 2003 and threw out the paperwork years ago. Who knows what was done in between. I like to think this was our old one, but who knows. Just wish I could know for sure.

Glad to help. I checked the Corvette Registry with VIN and it wasn't listed and as you said, there is no telling what has been done to it. Some of these cars have changed many hands since new and when the build records at St Louis were destroyed, it makes it very difficult to confirm what options were actually on these cars without original owner documentation. We both know that (Tuxedo) Black was not available in 71, so who knows?!
Again, I hope someone can help you out. I'm curious too!

I didn't see one there. They have a few very nice cars but the lineup speaking if seemed like a small Mecum show.

The homeless tent city right outside is a great addition to the area

'75 El Dorado convertible. 500ci engine, the largest ever in an American production car. It had to be to move the 5000 lb car down the road. And burn the tires from a standing start with 3 NFL lineman sitting comfortably in the back. The trunk has the storage space of a Suburban. It takes a grown arse man just to slam the door.

Are you speaking about that particular car? I have owned a '70 DeVille convertible and a '75 El Dorado hardtop. The only thing about those cars that could possibly make them a piece of shite is age/lack of care.
