Motor Trend
All are 2020 models

Unfortunately I don't think you'll save much over a new truck by buying a 2020 model Tundra or 2020 Silverado.

Other than a weird engine code around 5k miles, my Sierra has been solid. My Toyota before that was bulletproof though.

I'm shocked the Ford 3v Triton V8 didn't make the list. They can last tens of thousands of miles sometimes with regular maintenance.

Surprised any truck is even statistically close to the Tacoma. I've heard the Tacoma was having more issues lately, but it still has a great reputation. Wonder if the turbo Tundra will hold up as well as these old 2020 V8 Tundras.
GM is in there because of their aging gas V8s. They put them in almost every truck they build. For every issue they have, there are probably thousands of them that are out there taking a lot of abuse without any issue.

No car company is perfect, but that thing is a world class POS.
The only thing worse than that Ford V8 is every Powerstroke diesel made since they killed off the old 7.3 Liter engine. Ford truck loyalists are stuck in a weird, abusive relationship with that company.

Toyota is slipping but keeps selling because of past reputation.

Gives me hope that my '17 will last another 10 years because there's no way I can afford a new one. I paid $39k or so and the same package for a '24 is going for $59k.

It's what daddy/granddaddy drove, or what they saw in a commercial that made them want a truck when they moved out of the burbs to the 'country' burbs.

You can't make the list of "most reliable used trucks available" if no one is selling theirs...

A friend of ours just traded their 2020 model for a 2023 model. He complained about all the recall notices and transmission issues requiring constant attention from the local dealer. It was bad even for a pandemic era Ford.
I'd be surprised if he had 45,000 miles on it.

The GM 5.3L V8 might be the best motor I’ve ever owned. I put 309k miles on an 07 Yukon. Loved that vehicle
The Ram 2013 5.7L “Hemi” was another great motor for me. 260k miles without any work at all
Ironically the two Toyotas I’ve owned required more repairs than any other vehicle I’ve owned in my life. Fuel pumps and AC condensers on my two iForce V8’s. Not horrible in the grand scheme of things just completely opposite of expectations

We quit buying the GMs at work because of reliability. We have the 2nd biggest fleet in North America

How many people are going to come in here and continue to argue that older trucks were more reliable?

Auto loan defaults are up and credit markets are tightening. So you'll have some new and used options soon.
But most of them will not be the models listed in this thread. Most financed Toyota and GM trucks are sold to prime borrowers. Even Ford trucks are usually sold like that. So there may be discounts here and there if the unions get back to work, but it won't be that steep for a while. And you can forget about it if it's a particularly hot model like the Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban, Tacoma, Colorado, Canyon, or Bronco.
Nissan, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Hyundai, Kia, and Chrysler on the other hand are a different story. There will be a lot of cash on the hood of new ones pretty soon if not already. That's where you'll want to go if you are interested in a very good deal. They depend on a lot of sub prime loans to move vehicles to people with 500-600 credit scores - and those are exactly who are getting squeezed out of the lending market right now. Basically a big part of their core audience can't afford their cars anymore.
All bets are off if the UAW strike continues though. I know they are hitting Ford really hard right now - essentially shutting down Super Duty production. They are also not building any Chevy Colorados or Express Vans - both of which are hot sellers.

All but 2 of these are new models in 2023.
You baws keep that in mind when you run out to get that sweet 108 month loan at $983/month on a 2024 Tundra.
