Yeah I don't want anybody cutting into Yordan's DH time. I cross my fingers every time the dude runs.

2) How do you fix the offensive problems at home?

My stupid idea during this horrid stretch was move the home dugout to the 3rd base side. Home team gets to pick the dugout, and if these guys like playing on the road so much then give them the road dugout and locker room.

Every angle on the home record will be covered ad nauseum

Adding some LH bats or known oppo hitters wouldn't hurt, but there are other factors that I think could be addressed to remedy the huge disparity.

A manager with more discipline can insist on video time for each player on the opposing staff. With the travel and free time on the road, players are more likely to spend some researching opposing staffs. This probably doesn't happen when we're in Houston.

And the whole Astros BP not open to the public and gates open 2 hours prior to first pitch needs to GTFO. I get they don't want to be bothered by autograph seeking fans, but they could figure out a schedule to get some guys on the field closer to first pitch, even if it means opening gates 1.5 hrs prior to start

Rhys Hoskins. But we're locked into Abreu's stupid contract. Could sign Bellinger and move him to first when Abreu is done. He'll probably be too rich for Crane though.

Another reason why a Tucker trade should be explored if you can really get a good deal. Could using him open the door for a Luis Robert trade? In that scenario, Chas moves to RF (remember, he's too FAT for center field!).

Meanwhile, the free agent to spend on is Hader.

Well, we do have history there.

I have a sneaky suspicion that both Chas and Diaz fall flat on their face and both have experienced their career seasons

Mostly b/c I'm a pessimistic a-hole, but also b/c Dusty said you'll thank me later, and that result would vindicate him, which seems to be the way of the World at present

I'm ready to take my number, get in line, and apologize

For everything

Totally agree. I like Snell the best, but would be okay with Nola.

I'm hearing that the Astros will be "fixing" the batter's eye even more during this offseason at Minute Maid Park. I am not sure to what degree, but it seems that it will be addressed.

Doubling down on the batters eye thing huh? That's the reason our boys couldn't punish meatballs.

Rangers: 20 runs in 2 games
Astros: well nobody can expect us to hit with this batters eye

Definitely some ups and downs this season compared to the last few. Injuries didn’t help but we persevered. Coaching was wishy washy, but we persevered. Just seemed like we were burnt out. And then our second most valuable player hits the skids at the worst possible time.
A fresh look manager, some moves to prop our pitching and I believe we are back in the playoffs. Kudos to the Rangers for shitting in their bed to let us get home field advantage. Never thought we would drop two at the end but it’s been our mantra all year. It’s been real, it’s been fun, but it wasn’t real fun losing this close to getting back to the WS. See you guys next year. And hopefully for the last time. FODB.

Right? By the Astros logic, every game should be 3-2. Maybe the answer is having quality AB’s and not trying to hit 5 run homers on every godforsaken pitch.

100% a mental creation. One of those baseball oddities that they allowed to blossom into a mind virus. We know that at least Jose Abreu had a problem with the batters eye and I believe others were noted in agreement but not named.

This was a second half thing. We weren't this bad at home early on and then we totally tanked. I think they got into a hitting slump at home and tried to come up with reasons to explain it and eventually let themselves believe they can't hit at home. It's in their heads that they were going to have a hard time hitting and if you have doubt in your mind, you're not going to.

What this team needs to win a WS is far more than cheap arse crane is willing to pay. He will not go where the Phillies and Rangers have gone. This was it for this run. It's all downhill to mediocrity.

Umpires missed 84 calls in the #ALCS and 46 went against the #Astros. They combined for a correct call rate of 90.8% (league average 92.5%). The crew consisted of Scheurwater (42nd of 92), Ripperger (39th), Hoye (54th), Eddings (86th), Hudson (51st), and Baker (45th).

Totally normal for 55% of blown calls to go against 1 team over 7 games.

Whatever we were our own worst enemies. The fouled off rolled over meatballs did far more to doom us than the umpires. I thought they were far more egregious in Arlington.

Well, I’ll share a little backstory about that.

It was the year 2005, and my beloved Astros had made me suffer long enough, esp in 2004. An old high school friend went on to become a VP for MiLB and had secured 24 tickets for me to the ‘04 WS, and they were overnighted to me just prior to losing to the Cardinals. I drank myself to sleep that early morning and was awakened by the doorbell at lunchtime the next day by the FedEx delivery of tickets that could never be used.

But alas, this was ‘05, and this time we won. And I had 18 tickets. The only thing my friend asked in return for this incredible gift? Pictures of the batter’s eye at MMP from behind home plate.

You see, there were league-wide complaints surrounding its effects. Our pitchers were unhittable. And yes, our lineup outside of Berkman, couldn’t hit its weight, esp vs decent pitching.

So I share this only to say, there is some kind of mystique, an aura, if you will, that has involved this park and the backdrop for those entrusted to compete with a bat in their hands.

Baseball, like many things in life, comes with unexpected circumstances.

Everyone bitched about the backdrop pre renovation when the hill was still there. It was supposed to be absolutely terrible. No doubt some of that has been passed down (look no further than one of our “special assistants”) even though it’s probably not still applicable in this version of the ballpark
