I’m sure I’ll get bashed but life goes on.. you can’t pack it in and not move forward. It’s tragic and sad but if we shutdown everything when something bad happens then we’d live in a miserable society full of grief and self pity.

s there a precedent for this? Virginia last year maybe?
UVA chose not to play after that happened too. The coach retiring is strange, and could possibly imply a causal reason that the team has chosen to go this route. I am not in their shoes, so I won't have any critique on them.

Arrests have been made amongst players on the team. NOTHING related to the murder. This is extremely ominous.
Laird probably assumes the worst of his program if he's leaving, that's my guess.

My best guess is Laid wanted to play. Woke President said no way and Laird said I'm out. Should have been out before now in all honesty. My .02

I get it, but I also understand the oddness of the timeline. They cancelled their game right after the shooting, which was to be expected. Then they played their next one. Then two days before their next game, they cancel their whole season and the coach steps down at the same time. Don't remember seeing anything like this before.

The Grambling players no showed the bus to the Jackson State game a few years back after a pissing match with the school administration and the school acted as if the game would go on until only about 4 players showed up.

Ok that makes it way more bizarre. I didn’t realize they played a game in between

Aren’t they like 0 and a bunch?
Yes... they are 0-6 and lost at home to previously also winless Southeastern Louisiana in the lone game played after Caldwell's death
Ex-NSU QB turned SLU QB Zach Clement opened that game by taking the snap on the game's opening play, trotted up 10 yards and took a knee, placing the ball on a Caldwell jersey so they could say Caldwell made the tackle as NSU had only 10 defensive players on the field for that play

So the HC bailed on his team he loves like family?
HC was 16-41 in his sixth season & 0-7 this season. It was time , but I don't understand why not finish the season with an interim. They actually played a game after Caldwell's death.

I am sure there have been many teammates murdered/killed tragically in the past and I have never heard of a team canceling the season.
They usually dedicate the rest of the season to the deceased player.

They were supposed to be McNeese 's homecoming opponent on Saturday. Nothing like last minute cancellation.
They had their own homecoming game coming up in 2 weeks against Houston Christian and senior day against Texas A&M-Commerce still to come

McNeese will be credited with a win for this week’s game.
MacNeese gonna take a win anyway they can get it this season.

Their starting QB was taken off the field against SLU in an ambulance too. Just a tough month for NWSU. Out of all the other in-state SLC schools they are the ones that bother me the least, feel for them.

I don't understand why the head coach resigned?
He was 16-41 in his tenure (2018-present) and on track to go 0-11 this season. Using the death of a player as a scapegoat to save face is a new way to not get fired it seems.

Have John Melvin University play rest of their schedule

Might have something to do with them being 0-6.

Maybe it’s just a reflection of where we are at in society, in that feelings and emotions have overtaken everything, perseverance and the show must go on mantras are dead.
Understand the sentiment, but we are talking FCS football, the players all have more important things to focus on.

There has to be more going on here
The murdered player’s 27 year old roommate was arrested for his murder, and there were also weapons and drugs found in the apartment.
