First time I moved into a “nice” neighborhood, I was surprised by how many groups came in. But it makes sense that the people who work in the neighborhood during the day might bring their kids there to trick or treat.

But as a kid, yeah we just went around the neighborhood to people we knew. Or to the parish bazaar.

I love it. We had a kid 75 kids show up tonight I could tell were excited. I spent about $300 in candy because you’re only a kid once. I hope they enjoy it and rot their damn teeth out.

A coworker gave me a different point of view on this. She said she didn’t care if a 16 year old dropped by ToT, she says it’s better he’s getting candy than out and up to no good.

I just handed out 40 pounds of candy. 99% of those kids don’t live here but they can’t exactly trick or treat in the ghetto. As a neighborhood we welcome them in every year

So we'll see you on the money board looking for advice on how to finance college soon?

The thing that irks me about neighborhood largesse (Halloween, Christmas parties, etc.) is like being on an airplane. If there is a depressurization, you put your mask on first, then help others around you.

There is a constant cycle of OT'ers that complain about money, but continue to blow money on other people, and not saving in a 529, but going to 30A, buying $300 worth of candy for randos. My ex FIL didn't have shoes for years as a kid. I'm clearly a product of a depression era family, which is an over correction, but damn. You people are nuts.

My wife is a retired teacher. They come from all over, and we enjoy it. One day a year, not that hard.

Nobody is at my house so I turned on all the sirens on the ring cameras. That’ll show those rascals.

ETA this is my first Halloween in this house and it’s in town. Lots of kids came by. Unfortunately I’m offshore. Next year I’ll have a set up.

It’s really simple
You either want to participate in Halloween or you don’t

What’s sadder, is when no one shows up in your neighborhood anymore

Every time this happens I thank God I’m able to live in a neighborhood that parents bring their kids to so they can get a taste of the good life.

Tric r treat is for kids, does it matter if they live on your street?

This. Kids from neighborhoods that aren’t very nice or conducive to trick or treating deserve to have fun on Halloween too.

I don’t care.
Trick or Treat was a big deal for me growing up.
Kids today have it rough.
If a few bags of candy that cost me around $75 bucks makes them happy that makes me happy.

True that. We used to get them coming in by the carload. Not a soul for several years now. Bought a $20 bag of the good stuff at Costco, and donated it to the local group hosting a party for the neighborhood kids. It’s probably safer for them to all gather in one place for the food, games, and treats, but I miss the tradition of trick or treating. Heck, I even miss the parents begging an extra piece of candy for the “child who’s sick at home.”

In the church’s Econoline van halfway back to Baton Rouge from a couple hours in River Ranch with the kids without a safe place to trick or treat.

I think they had fun but I believe some houses had different buckets of candy, Reeces and Snickers for some kids and candy corn and sweet tart rolls for the “other” kids.

Bastards.

Can’t wait till next year.

Halloween is infinitely more enjoyable the more participants there are as long as they all are civil and polite.

We had the same thing happen tonight. At 6:01 there must have been 10 cars pull in and loads of kids and parents rolled out and started going door to door. They definitely didn't live here but they were all pretty damn friendly and walked with our group a few blocks. The kids had a blast and appeared to be happy to have nice neighborhood to trick or treat in.

For a while the neighborhood i grew up in got waaay out of hand with this. Alot of people would throw parties and haubted houses so that only attracted more outsiders. Eventually it caved in and is desolate now on halloween. New families moved in or people got old

Dude 90% of trick or treaters are from another neighborhood for me. Don’t care it’s for the kids, and my neighborhood is safe
