Starting in 2024, auto dealers for the first time will be able to sell vehicles on Amazon’s

Sounds like people aren’t reading the details. The local dealerships will be the ones selling the vehicles, online.

Hopefully this drives the prices down at the local stealerships

It will absolutely do this. The dealerships are going to have to drastically up their customer service perks and offers to keep people coming.

I foresee dealerships offering perks like '100% free maintenance for life of vehicle' to compete with Amazon's prices.

Elon is going to break up that lobby group that has kept that law on the books, though.

He consistently loses this battle in court.

He won in Michigan. Give him time in LA. The lobby is strong but he has since pushed it past LA judges and is pushing it to a DOJ issue

Don't forget they also charge about 100% for parts and labor to fix anything not under warranty.

Fewer lying salesmen? The horror.

This right here. I’ve known five car salesmen and only one wasn’t a pos. And to top it off, they know they are scum but justify it by, “customers lying about what they can afford.”

There's a car salesman on here (forgot his name) has a meltdown on here anytime something like this is mentioned and thinks the government should pass laws banning not hiring a middleman. He'll even accuse you of being a liberal even though it's getting rid of a regulation and meeting a market demand.

I don't see how this won't phase out local dealerships over time. There will be local distribution and warranty centers but those will be manufacturer-owned.

My brother in law's family owned a few dealerships in the south, they made almost all their profits from the service center. Sales were damn near a loss leader for them. Car salesmen are probably screwed more than the dealership owners.

Good maybe this will drive vehicle prices down locally. Dealerships will have no choice if they want to make sales.

Can’t wait to pick up at my dealer and have the dealer slap on a $2000 fee.

So Amazon now has a pharmacy and is going to sell cars? I'm all for a one stop shop but damn I don't like the control one company has in all areas of life.

once they swap to direct sales it is going to frick people that like to negotiate vehicle prices. The consumer definitely is not going to see any savings either.

If dealerships close(leading to a loss of employment for mechanics), then demand for techs and mechanics at local mechanic shops will rise. This should also lead to an increase in demand of shops as the existing one's will start seeing backups

All those shops will have to be approved warranty locales for a # of brands too. Will need to accommodate all the OEMs requirements to handle. I believe Tesla requires multiple car sized bays for just one car. The corner mechanic shop will expand their building size to handle.

With all the tech in these cars today, doubled for EVs, the local shop certified master techs able to work on multi brands will be a super hot commodity.
