Key to it all

Genetics help but lots of hard workers in the family who lived long. Smokers got clocked for 20 years and died in their 70's but the non smokers went to their 90's. The women were still growing stuff in the yard and canning it when many were already taking the dirt nap.

It seems gardening > gym for keeping you healthy.

Not saying you can not party young, but it wears you out quick if you are still trying to hit the bars in middle age.

Other thing is Social Media shortening folks lives. Humans are made to interact in person. Turns out this group in Sicily was studied for generations as they had the greatest life expectancy. A chunk had relocated in upstate New York (cold as hell) and same results. turned out it was not diet, genetics, or exercise but they were extremely social and ate and laughed a lot as a culture.

I remember 65. What starts to get to me, as an oldie, is the number of friends who have died. Teachers, Accountants, my personal lawyer, I could go on and on about good people who lived fairly stressless lives and some did go around 60 from Alzheimers.
It gets to the point where when I can't get someone on the phone, I get scared they are gone gone.

68 in Jan.

Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you will live forever.

65 is in my rear view mirror. I turned 72 in September.

I am in generally good health and still working full time. I know that there will come a day when I no longer can go to court and try cases. Until then, I have no intention of retiring. If and when I retire I will consider myself old.

Only the Good Lord knows how long I have here. I truly believe that growing old is a privilege. Not every one gets to be old. So, enjoy every day - or as the late, the great Warren Zevon said, "Enjoy every sandwich".

That is the downsize to getting old, when all your friends have died before you. people in your peer group have the most effect. Most common experiences to draw from.

I knew a woman who made it to 98, around 40 she started making friends a generation younger than she was. Pretty smart.

People don't worry about being dead. They worry about getting dead.
