exactly.... the player they paid him, at the time, is not the same player that Herb is today.... he's improved a pretty vast amount, offensively... that being said, like i've said earlier, he's still got a ways to go before he's in that "elite" category... defensively, he's pretty much there... but offensively, he's still got some developing to do, though he has improved drastically since entering the league

lol what. He doesn’t have to care it’s for his agent to negotiate. I was mostly joking, I love the fact that he took way less than deserved and pelicans have him on a bargain. But either way, no way in hell, even before the 3 point breakout, he couldn’t have gotten more than 12-13 a year. Especially when you see some of the other 129 players in front of him getting more. Either way pelicans are lucky for once

I say this as a Herb fan from Day 1, we paid Herb to be an elite, DPOY candidate, defensive wing and to be a serviceable shooter, which was more than fair. If we get that from him for half a decade that would be amazing, and would allow him to play with any lineup/roster make-up we have in the future.

What we are getting now...elite, low volume shooting across the board, locker room leader, and maybe more impressive, serviceable third option on offense playmaking/passing is just stunning. This version of Herb is not just a player you need to get defensive stops in a playoff series against a top team, but a player that could possibly swing a playoff series on both sides of the ball.

Edit: Saying I doubt he becomes "elite" offensively, but if he continues to refine what he is doing right now that is perfect for the Pelicans.

agreed, provided he's consistent on the offensive side of the ball... that's the only caveat, right now, for him... let's be honest, he still has games where he's not producing great offensive numbers... if he can consistently get between 15-17 ppg and 3-5 apg, then yeah, i'm totally on board with the above statement... but he ain't there yet

Herb Jones wasn't talking trash for himself, he was doing it to motivate his teammates, because that's what leaders do.

quote:

Jim Eichenhofer @Jim_Eichenhofer

Herb seemed to vow postgame that him being talkative on court is about to become common: "You'll probably see a little bit more of it, just because the dude who doesn't normally talk, if he shows emotion, it may trickle down (and a teammate) might play with more of an edge."

Herb's just taking "does whatever it takes" to the next level.

Least surprising thing ever!

That’s why he is a franchise changing draft pick. Zion is our superstar but without Herb, this is not a contending team

I’m not sure if he’s the best pelican in this team, but it is an interesting thought experiment to ask how many teams in the nba would choose herb jones if allowed to add any pelican to their roster?

I think most western conference playoff teams plus Boston, Milwaukee are choosing Herb.

He might now be a cornerstone but he fits in with any title contender in the league.

Doubt there is any legit serious contending team...that wouldn't choose Herb over any of our other players. Not sure what that says...about our current roster.

Funny that for all the talk about TM3 potentially making BI expendable, it's Herb's offensive improvement that makes it possible.

Herb is turning into more than anyone of us ever realized. Its not just the shooting and defense. You can just tell this team follows Herb.

I never buy basketball jerseys but I might need to change that for Herb (also, I am a fellow Jones).
