Everytime it felt like the Kings were coming back, CJ would make a bucket to pull back the momentum. This team is stacked when healthy.

Nope. Gotta bench him for Dyson. Also need to trade BI.

1 outta 2, I'll take it while we keep overreacting to 1 game sample sizes!

I don’t think people realize that if CJ actually gets to play his role as the #3 option, he’s immediately one of the top 5 #3 options in the league

Herro
CJ
Bane if you count him?
Beal if he ever gets healthy?
Harden (debatable)

Jrue’s actually the 4 option on that team. Porzingis would probably be in that list as well though. Replace harden with him and that’s fine

I understand this fully. But it’s all about lineups. We don’t need 3 ball dominant players on the floor at all times which is what BI (loves iso ball), Zion (somehow still only knows how to play bully ball/downhill drive to the paint 5 years into the league), and CJ likes to do.

Now CJ does a good job at times of being the 3rd guy and sitting on the wing to shoot. Sometimes he tries too hard to take guys off the dribble. When he’s on the wing it’s fantastic. And I love his ability to read the game and make the right play at times.

However, the 3 of those guys are horrible on defense together. So why not have a rotation where you always have 2 of the BIG3 with defensive minded players around them?

Trey/Naji/Dyson/Herb/Jose are all defensive guys who all happen to shoot the 3 at a much better clip than 3 years ago.

I’d much rather hold teams down and frustrate them offensively than try to outshoot teams night in and night out

The stats show that Zion and BI as a pairing actually have a really good defensive rating

They stagger them, they don't have 3 call dominant players on the floor at all times.

Can you show the defensive numbers? Because I know the 3 on the floor together absolutely maul teams since CJ joined the team.

We did that last season with a top 6 defense, it got us the 9th seed.

Whole team showed a sense of urgency tonight. Herb was amazing all game but him catching them sleeping and getting that offensive rebound and put back late was huge. Made a couple good momentum killing timeouts in the 4th too. Finally did a good job protecting the lead late.

CJ does lots of things in a timely manner. The guy is real pro.

he also takes very untimely contested step backs and pull ups as well. if we want to crown him the best 3rd option, he needs to be more selective on taking low percentage shots like he tends to do in the first half of games.

3rd options shouldn’t be taking away shots from other players by taking bad shots. it’s not a horrible problem, but it’s not great. playing next to Z and BI he should know that he will get open shots and not force the ones he doesn’t need to take

I'm very critical when he does this, but he's done it a lot less this year IMO. He only had one really bad shot last night.

"he also takes very untimely contested step backs and pull ups as well."

I have been plenty frustrated with some of CJ's shots, but is it really true that he has done this when we are anything resembling full strength? My suspicion is that CJ did most of his pressing when our available roster made it hard for the Pels to score.

While the stats do say that, you know they are not the reason for that, right?
No one would ever say either of them are even average defenders.

The starting lineup actually has a -NetRtg
114.1 ORtg vs 115.4 DRtg

The starting lineup with Dyson instead of CJ was
135.7 ORtg vs 115.1 DRtg

Those are the two most played 5 man lineups by a good bit.

and really the best NetRtg are when it's JV/BI/Zion with any 2 combination of Herb/Dyson/Hawkins/Naji

We are a worst team NetRtg when JV goes off the court. The only other two players that have a similar influence like that are Herb and Naji, and while we don't have a negative NetRtg when Jose is off, the difference between our NetRtg when he's on vs off is the greatest difference on the team, so you can really say Jose has been the biggest difference maker on the team, which is exactly what you want from your spark plug off the bench. His numbers don't look like that if he was a starter.

3 man lineup stats for CJ/Zion/BI since the season started
105.1 ORtg
109.6 DRtg

-4.5 NetRtg

106 minutes together.

since he came back from injury it's been 3 games, 45 of those 106 total minutes.
124.5 ORtg
117.3 DRtg
7.2 NetRtg

that means in the games before CJ had the lung issue it was
90.4 ORtg
103.8 DRtg
-13.4 NetRtg
in 61 minutes played.
