Sector dials like the Longines are coming back on trend. They were popular in the 60s (you see several on Mad Men) but the Longines is a modern interpretation of one they made in the 30's. They are sometimes called scientific or railroad dials but those really suggest different subsets of the sector dial.

Since it is a watch thread I have been doing my first rewatch of Mad Men and have been noticing watches. One thing that bugged me is in (I think) the first season Don got Betty a tiny gold watch as an apology and the watch was quartz... 9 years before they were invented. Don was a time traveler! Another TV show that bugged me was Billions, Axe's AP Royal Oak chronograph was a quartz knockoff. I knew it wasn't but I kept hoping it was a Chekhov's Gun and it actually meant something.

Wow. That’s bad. That show was pretty meticulous. I don’t recall the scene.

Stallone movies (Rambo) with Panerai watches annoy me. John Rambo living off the land eating what “would make a Billy goat puke” would be more practical. At most splurging on a decent G-Shock the brand cops wear all the time that escapes me.

had to look that up, I thought it must be some obscure watch forum, in a way I guess I was right.
in one post above you're advising users to try out a replica first and then in the next you act like you've never heard of the largest replica forum on the web.

Wasn't panerai pretty much obscure and ignored back in the 80s until Sly started pimping them hardcore?

They're good. What kills them for me is the awful font that they use for "PanoMaticLunar." It looks like a default Microsoft Word font

Yuck.

Tourbillons are the only complication I suggest if someone is considering buying they first buy one of the sub $1k Chinese versions to see how quickly the novelty wears off.

To be fair to Obtuse, Seagull (and other Chinese brands) are their own thing. It's not a rep of an existing model

if he had said 'one of the chinese brands' instead of 'chinese version' i wouldn't have assumed he meant a knock-off of the watch in question.

GO is legit watch geek stuff. Very reputable and not something you see every day. I'd wear one in a heartbeat.

I like them, but I wouldn't buy one.

Don't like them enough for that price.

I have the GO pictured below: ref# 39-44-04-12-04 Senator Power Reserve Moon. I think the company puts out some fantastic watches. Part of Swatch Group since around the turn of the century. Similar to AL&S, but have more varied offerings. Very fine and very Teutonic watchmaking.

I sent this one in for servicing through DeBoulle in Dallas because the power reserve was stuck in the fully wound position and because it had not been serviced since around 2008 or so. Expecting it back soon.

I think the SeaQ is a great looking watch, but I would not be wanting to be in it at RRP. If you can pick one up around $7500, you would be pretty sound in it. I would def tell you to see what it looks like on your wrist. I think GO watches wear big in general. I think it is hard to justify any SS dive watch at that recommended retail price over a Sub, in my opinion.

I have two qualms with the PML - 1, it wears like a thick dinner plate; and 2, it feels exceedingly derivative of the Lange 1 moonphase. Yeah, I know, the Lange 1 moonphase is significantly more expensive. But I would also venture to say it is very significantly better.

OTOH he can't just pop into town and pick up a battery if the G Shock dies.

You’re right. That’s a MS font.

Should give you the option of which one you want.

In fairness, Patek has used Arial font in the past.
