Had a waitress do something similar in San Diego. Paid for a $40 dollar lunch with a hundred dollar bill because I didn't have smaller bills. The change came back $20 bucks short. The waitress disappeared but the manager was right there talking with another employee. Brought it up to him, and his reaction was to roll his eyes at the guy he was talking to and say "again?" like the waitress bitch was a habitual offender. Got my $20 back and then left a much smaller tip than I would have.

He likely has no friends to go out with. He's one of those "smarter" than anyone types.

He also shouldn't go if he can't afford paying.

say most because I do have one friend that pulls out a whole arse calculator. Although.. I think it's because she doesn't know how to do 20% in her head. LOL.

That’s 100% my wife’s problem, I’ve tried to teach her common core math but it doesn’t help

Off college Drive. Don’t really want to name the place as I used to enjoy the food and atmosphere. Probably my last trip for a while.

You'll overtip because of some dude on a message board. That is strange.

Eben more embarrassing is going to eat with someone that is paying for the whole meal and they tip like shite.

You just sound like you suck.

Uhhh if you go eat with me, you don't pay because I'm Mr bad arse.

Why not? I'd blast that shite on here.

So the guy brought back your bill after you gave him your card and he physically wrote the tip, added it to the total, and gave you back the completed bill to sign? Is that how I'm reading it?

Might as well take the money out of your wallet

I’ll always hang back and check the ticket if I’m eating with someone I don’t know well. Especially if it’s a place I go to regularly

Honestly, I'd respect someone just fine for saying, "I don't like tipping culture (or I can't afford it), so I don't dine out".

It's the typing away defending yourself by acting as if every person in the service industry is a shithead that's out to get you. Just.. don't go? If it's that bad for you, just don't go. I don't understand it. Nobody is forcing you to go enjoy a meal out in public.

But yes of course we are going to judge someone for walking into a restaurant and focusing on finding ways staff fricks up so they can have an excuse to tip poorly.

The irony these people don't understand is that the easygoing patrons who tip well without a second thought are the ones constantly getting top tier service. Behaving how he is doing is actually getting him the opposite of the goal he claims to want -- great service.

(Personally don't think that's his goal anyway. I think tipping as little as possible is the goal, so he needs a scapegoat to justify it)

Bunch of suckers in this thread.

Give tips to places you frequent and get to know the workers.

NEVER tip when you travel. Not like you're going to see those people again.

If I'm eating out with someone that picks up the bill I usually throw down a couple extra tip dollars just to make sure the service person is taken care of unless I know the person well and I know they will tip accordingly....

It's also funny that people dont know that you're not expected to tip on tax but people will do that every time

If you give tips out of the expectation you are going to receive preferential treatment in the future, you are a shitty person.
