What’s really sad is all of us arm chair QBs could see refusing to blitz all season was crazy… especially since the guy got paid millions to play a soft zone and send four down lineman every snap.

Insane it was allowed to go on all season.
we did blitz. The issue wasn't that we didn't. The issue was that we never had our DLs or DBs running schemes that matched the blitz.

For example, we blitzed Milroe numerous times. On those plays, our DL were mad rushing up field, not maintaining their gaps, and leaving easy running lanes for Milroe. Against passing teams, we would blitz and have our DBs playing 15 yards off the ball allowing easy dump offs to make the blitz ineffective.

If you watched Michigan, when they blitzes Bama, their 4 DL maintained gaps and allowed the blitzer to go after Milroe without giving up huge open gaps for him to run into.

There is a reason the entire defensive staff was let go. None of them worked together.

Odds are better that CBK went to the stands, and grabbed the first guy wearing a jersey with another man's name on it. Asked him.... "you know the difference between a nickel and a corner???" Guy says yeah, "nickel is 5cents and a corner is like a 45* angle." CBK responds by handing him a headset "yep you'll do just fine, the defense is yours."

I think CBK called the last few defensive plays. He said! “Balls to the walls men!”.

Well, either you are unaware of the Bama games in 1982, '84, '86, and '88 or you flunked arithmetic in grammar school.

My math skills are better than your reading comprehension.

Home wins…none of the games you mention were played in Baton Rouge.

Yep, I stand corrected. Sorry for the dig.

This is certainly romanticizing the moment, but what if the players just said, "We are not going to sit back and let this guy have all day to throw."

It has been clear all year long that if the defense played more aggressively we prolly win at least one more game (Ole Miss).

If not the players, then who?
WTH? This isn't Varsity Blues; where are guys like you coming from?

that last play call was straight up blitz and drop everybody else into zone 25 yards deep at the marker which was the correct call. if he completes the pass keep it in front and come up and make tackle short of the marker. if he has time to throw deep you had best have your zone covered. thankfully the blitz got there and sacked his arse.
