re: Alabama football is imploding and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Saban *was* the brand.

So you're saying LSU has had more coaches win championships than Bama. Very interesting.

People keep saying well lsu is still in good shape after saban.
True. However Louisiana is in a very talent rich state and as much as I hated Les he did a great job picking up where saban left off and kept most these LA kids home. Which set a precedent moving forward.
Alabama doesn’t have that talent level in their state so its gonna be harder for them to maintain that level of success unless they get a coach who can recruit on the level saban was able to.

No question Saban was a brand, but Alabama paying recruits
under the table was the brand as well
NIL came to fruition and put Bama on a level playing field with everybody else

Watching this happen to Bama a little like watching the Titanic sink, or the Hindenberg crash and burn.

Wow. I never realized that. Weird.

Thankfully, LSU didnt have to deal with the portal after Saban left here. I wonder how many wouldve transferred out between Saban/Miles. The nucleus of that 2007 national champion team was one of Saban's best recruiting classes. And 2006 was possibly more talented.

You missed the most important aspect of Miles keeping Saban’s players on the roster:
They would have had to sit out for a year had they chosen to transfer.
The open transfers combined with NIL is how we landed here. If a coach leaves and his predecessor is not someone who was previously on his staff AND the players like (ex: Marcus Freeman at ND) then they will all hit the portal.
The only thing lsu has going for it that maybe Bama doesn’t is that a decent portion of our players are from Louisiana and that seems to matter here more than most places. Most other states have multiple P5 schools to choose from so loyalties aren’t as strong as they are here with LSU. But even this is wishful thinking.

Are you that naive to believe that Bama was the only program paying players??

They deserve every bit of this shite lol

Great points that I didn’t realize. LSU would prob look a lot different today had players been able to transfer like they can now when saban left.

All depends on what happens to the SEC in the playoffs next year. It's like people forget the AP Era in CFB. Wouldn't take much to see Michigan, OSU, Penn State, FSU, Miami etc etc getting all the players again.
The pro SEC press is severely outnumbered. Saban was good for the conference, not just Alabama and it amazes me that people don't get it. People either want to play for the best, or they want to beat the best.

Delicious. Fun to watch them eventually run Saban out of town bc he just ditched them.

They will get to see what the dark age feels like. They haven't felt in 19 years

Stallings, Perkins, Curry, Shula, etc.... the six guys between Bryant and Saban were a combined 62 % win percentage (modern day 8-4)... people managed to win just fine against them.

I agree with the more level headed posters here, in that while it's nice to see Bama come crashing back to earth, this situation is terrible for the sport, and needs to be addressed promptly.
Seems many of us forget that Kelly went with Saban to Washington to speak to congress about the need for some type of intervention into the transfer portal, specifically.
It's funny when it's Bama, but after Kelly goes on his run, it will suck to be in their position 7 years from now. There needs to be some common sense changes made to the portal.

Have to admit it's a little gratifying getting to see them act like the rest of us after 15+ years. That heir of arrogance they had disappeared with a quickness. Its fascinating.
